Disclaimer: Nothing is mine, as usual.

It all started on that fateful day, when Poppyfrost returned from hunting. She was coughing, and was asking me for help. I inspected her and told her it was only a simple cough. She was reassured and ate the herbs I gave her.

Two days later, she had a fever as well as a cough. I cursed myself for not noticing it earlier... She had greencough! I immediately took Poppyfrost into my den and tended to her. Her fever was not going down, and I was getting increasingly frustrated as the days passed. I became more irritable and started to snap at Poppyfrost when she bothered me, though unintentionally.

However, she kept her patience. When I look back on it, I wonder how she could have remained calm when I was being such a mousebrain. Others would scold me or ignore my sharp remarks, but Poppyfrost stayed unfazed, though I occasionally saw a her eyes reflecting the sunlight with an unusual amount of water in them. I thought nothing of it though.

Finally, she was cured. I was so happy that my bad mood decreased drastically, and my Clanmates started joking that I so loved her, I wished her alright as fast as possible. They teased me even further when I protested, accusing me of breaking the warrior code and falling in love. When I stalked off, it seemed to confirm their suspicions. I knew that there were unspoken words in their pranks and jokes."Poppyfrost! Poppyfrost! You love her! You've broken the warrior code, Jayfeather! Just like your mother..."

Then Poppyfrost began to come to the medicine den increasingly often, offering to help me with gathering herbs and stuff, and we became... friends.

I would tell her why I hated my mother so much, and she often mentioned a little of a strange tomcat that had captured her heart. When I asked for a description, she would pointedly ignore my words. My feelings for her were mixed and confused. I myself did not know what I thought of her.

It was the night before the half-moon that I found out who the tomcat was. Poppyfrost had disappeared for quite a short while. Thus, no one had noticed other than me. I thought that she was meeting the cat of her dreams. For a then unknown reason, I felt jealousy welling inside me.

When she returned, I dashed to her side and demanded to know where she had been. She replied cheerily,"Hunting!"

I followed her as she darted to my den and dropped a mouse inside. I stepped in and said brusquely to her,"Were you meeting the tomcat?"

She looked at me, stunned. After a long while, she seemed to prepare herself for something. Drawing me away from the entrance of the medicine den, she said softly,"I couldn't have. That tomcat... Is you, Jayfeather."

I was stunned. Finally, realizing that love and shame were the emotions battling inside me, I recalled the night when I had seen Leafpool and Crowfeather together, their love so strong I had longed to have such a bond with someone like that. My wish had come true.

"I... I love you too, Poppyfrost,"I murmured, my head full of stars.
