Richard listened at the door of his bed chambers, as his sister spoke in broken sobs of her deceased friend. His heart went out to his little sister, as much as he wished to stay with his lovely bride he couldn't abandoned the young girl.
"I will go with you." He spoke in a voice which made it clear that his decision was final, "Kahlan must stay here, she is with child, but I will go." He moved back into his chambers to put on clothes, "I will go tell Zedd my plan, will you be all right without me?" He asked his wife as he kissed her once more and he allowed a smile to reach his face.
"It will be unbearable without you." Kahlan said with a teasing smile on her own face, "But I will manage, probably help Zedd become more accustomed to the changed world. Take Rahl, please. He will defend you with his life." Richard agreed, kissed his wife and then left to meet with his grandfather.
"Zedd," He exclaimed as he met with the Wizard of the First Order, "I am going to leave with Jennsen for a funeral, would you mind watching over Kahlan while I'm gone?"
Zedd found a chair and sat down with a sigh, the transition still was not sitting well with him. Somehow their group was empty without Cara and their lives were almost… too perfect. Being so easily happy was not something that was easy to become used to. Not after almost two years of untold dangers and battles, "Please," he began, "Richard, I seem to be feeling a bit paranoid. Would you mind if I up the security here? I want to lock up the Box of Orden and put up some magical barriers.
Richard looked at the wizard with a certain type of sadness, he hated how difficult it was for his grandfather to accept that life was different than the one he had known. With a nod of approval he left to finish the arrangements to leave with his sister.
They only took a few soldiers with them and Darken Rahl, Richard never bothered to find it odd that Sisters of the Dark had attempted to attack them for he had easily defeated them. The funeral went as planned and before he knew it he was home with his family.
As the years passed Zedd kept an eye on formally widowed Cara who had remarried to an average man by the name of Leo. A man who wasn't spectacular in the least, to no one but Zedd. Zedd, who knew that she had finally gotten her deserved happily ever after.
Richard and Kahlan's daughter was born, with Richard's eyed, Kahlan's kindness, and Richard's determination. The young princess doted on her parents and learned the ways of the confessor and as time kept moving the true, honest happiness became a habit. One that only in the dark of night, when the family was able to remember the hard days, did they thank the creator with all of their hearts for blessing them with this new life
