In The End by nightfayte

In the end, we are all human. In the end, we are all the same. Fated to live, fated to love, fated to be loved and ultimately, fated to die.

Izaya had not yet realized that. But Fate seemed determined to show him. And that is how he knew, that in the end, Shizuo Heiwajima, - despite his monstrous strength and capabilities that said otherwise- was human.

It wasn't supposed to be like this. I didn't know you could die this easily.

You always got back up. Always. When I sent those gangs after you. When I got you hit by a truck. Even when I hurt you.

You always stood up again, brushing it off, as if it was just a mosquito bite, a mere hindrance.

...You disappoint me, Shizu-chan.

I watch as that carmine liquid, the very same, bright shade as my eyes, slowly pool around the still, motionless figure that lay before me.

That familiar crisp, white shirt and black, bartender vest drenched and stained a dark ruby red.

...All those times. ...All that effort. Is this where it all ends?

I thought we were forever.

I thought we were invincible. I thought you were invincible.

And yet...

And yet, it is this moment, that shows me, in the end...

Just how human you are.

Four days later Izaya Orihara disappeared, never to be seen again.

Where did he go?

Who knows. Some say he had finally grown bored and decided to leave his 'precious humans' to pursue a new interest. Others whispered that no, it couldn't be that, because some knew all too well of his love of humanity, however twisted that love may have been.

Maybe he didn't want to be reminded of the times he'd had in Ikebukuro and Shinjuku.

Maybe he didn't see the point without his 'monster'.

Is he still alive?

Maybe.
