Choices

Just a one shot that jumped into my head while watching Waste from season 4. I'm not trying to be political or pro-life/choice or anything, it's just a story. The first line is from the episode and Elliot's obvious pause is what led to this.

Disclaimer: I don't own them.

"My mother made a choice, if the same thing happened to me, morning after pill no question."

Elliot paused briefly, taking in what his partner had just said. Blurted out without even a thought, like she had made up her mind about that fact long ago. Yes her mother had made the choice to keep her, but at the time there was no such thing as the morning after pill. If there were Olivia probably wouldn't have been standing in front of him. He shuddered at the thought. He knew Olivia's mother wasn't a staunch Catholic by any means and her choice to keep Olivia was hers alone so would she have even had a second thought of taking the morning after pill? While being a good Catholic was always at the forefront of his mind his deeper issue with her statement was that in effect it meant that she wouldn't have chosen herself. Wouldn't have inflicted herself upon her mother, who she feels resented her for her very existence, if she had it to over again. As much as she talked about having accepted the fact that she is a product of rape she essentially decided that she would not become her mother even though her mother clearly made the right decision, at least in his eyes.
