Chapter One
"You can feel it, can't you? Heimdall voices his suspicions, walking up behind Loki, who had been staring off into the space beyond the bifrost for the past half hour.
Loki glances over at him. He had never been fond of Heimdall, but he didn't exactly hate him either. "I can feel what, exactly?"
Heimdall nods as though Loki had just admitted to something. "You can't see it, like I can, but you can feel it. I have suspected it for a while now."
Loki didn't bother trying to deny it. Maybe the all-seeing guardian could shed some light on it for him. For the past several days. Loki could sense that something wasn't quite right. A sense of apprehension seemed to follow him, and his sleep had more often than not been cut short by nightmares that slipped between his fingers upon waking. It had taken him two days to realize the sense of foreboding wasn't coming from himself, or even from Asgard. It was reaching out to him from somewhere far away. "What is it, Heimdall?"
"There is unrest on Earth. Something that doesn't belong has found its way there in search of someone who eludes them. I cannot tell its origins. They are hiding themselves from me. I see a woman running...and something formidable chasing her. Something that will leave Thor's second home in ruins if it does not cease."
"Yet you haven't told him." Loki points out.
"It was forbidden by my king. Thor is needed here while Asgard recovers from the destruction Malekith left in his wake." Heimdall hesitates before adding, " He never forbade me from telling you."
"You think I should investigate." Loki says, reading between the lines.
"I've said no such thing. My king would frown on that. However, I will say that Thor would be very upset should something unfortunate befall Earth."
The corner of Loki's mouth tugged up in a smirk. "Then it is a good thing for Thor that I am not in the least concerned with what your king would frown upon."
"Whenever you are ready, say the word." Heimdall replies, staring out into the stars.
