notes: i don't know what this is it just happened. the lack of capitals is on purpose, sorry if that bothers you, but it is not going to change. also, sorry for the shortness, but, again, i don't even know what really happened here.
halcyon
marlene&fabian
/
he hears about her death before she ever gets to hear about his and for a second, he thinks it's funny because they always joked about how he would be the one to die between the two of them, with all of his crazy missions that he went on with his crazy brother and this crazy world they live in.
but mostly, he just feels like he's atlas and he wasn't strong enough.
/
how do you think -
you think i think? a smirk. a smile back, but only for a second.
i mean, what do you suspect will become of us, fabian? do you think -
i tend not to think about the future, marlene.
why?
all i think about are the ones who don't get to see it.
/
they begin swiftly, without a word spoken and without anyone knowing. in the end, no one does know about them, and everybody is slightly confused why fabian became so distraught after her death.
but nobody asks about it, not even his brother.
/
they are the smell of sawdust in empty broom closets and cobwebs that get stuck in their hair as they try to steal a moment away from all the chaos they can't control. she is the peppermint tea she drinks and he is the coffee, no cream, no sugar, thank you, that he downs every morning.
when he is alive and she isn't, he thinks about these things and often times visits their regular haunts, acting like a ghost himself as he walks carefully through them. he tries to hold on to every laugh she made, every smile she gave, every kiss she placed on his skin.
the fact of the matter is, that she was something rather shining in these otherwise dark times, at least for him, and with her gone he isn't sure he knows how to see anymore.
/
do you always take girls here?
it is their first date. well, not really, because it wasn't meant to be one. he needed to get away from the rest of the order, but ran into her, and she didn't want to leave nor did he make her.
you're the one whose following me.
they end up on a hill that overlooks the sea. he is sitting with his knees pulled up to his chest while she is still standing and the waves crash to break their silence. marlene sees a small cabin closer towards the water and he explains that was his grandfather's. we used to come here every summer, he says. she convinces him to go back inside the now-abandoned cabin that's covered with dust like it is a blanket that's keeping it warm and houses birds nests rather than wizards.
their first kiss happens in the kitchen that overlooks the sea, and they go back many times after. so many times that, eventually, fabian promises that they will move in here one day together and marlene believes him.
/
the last night he sees her, she sings him a lullaby her mother used to sing to her as a child and he kisses her jawline as they lie in bed and together, they forget about the fire that continues to be fed fuel outside their window.
but for now, they are in halcyon times and when the night is over, they both promise that these times won't be forgotten.
if you liked it enough to favorite, please leave a review as well.
