And Still

Stargate is the property of MGM and of people more rich than myself. The song "And Still" belongs to the incomparable Reba McEntire.
One shot. Takes place 15 years after Sams first mission thru the Stargate. At Christmas time. Cannon-ish, assuming Sam and Jack got together in Area 51 and married after Continuum. I decided to use a different child than Grace, because there are too many Graces in SG-fiction.
Sarah stepped out into the frigid Colorado winter. She had put off her Christmas shopping until just a few days before the holiday. Since her son had died, this time of year held little joy for her, but she had nieces and nephews to shop for still as well as a great-niece, since her oldest niece had had a baby who was now a toddler. Her oldest niece who was the same age as Charlie. It was a sobering thought during a ridiculously giddy time of year.
She caught sight of a familiar man in the crowd walking towards her. He had obviously stopped dying his hair and gained a little weight, but even fifteen years after their divorce, she would recognize this man anywhere. He was in his uniform, which held three stars instead of the eagles that had been so familiar to her. He walked right up to her and stopped. Her world froze as a familiar ache entered her chest, where her heart had once been. She still loved him, after all.
Thousands of people live in this town, and I had to run into him.
When I saw him there, on that busy street
Those feelings came back again
There was no where to run, no where to hide
He walked up to me. Looked in my eyes And Still
The world stood still I couldn't move and
All I could feel was this aching in my heart saying I loved him still
"How have you been, Sarah? He asked, "You look great."
"I can't complain," She replied, "how have you been, Jack?
He said how have you been, its good to see you again, your really a sight for sore eyesI said I cant complain, oh I'm doing fine, we talked as the people rushed by.
We laughed about old times and all we went through
That's when he hugged me and said I've missed you And Still
The world stood still I couldn't move and
All I could feel was this aching in my heart saying I loved him still
A woman came up to them, interrupting the conversation with her arrival. She was about the same height as Sarah. Her hair was blond and her eyes blue; there was the end of their similarities. While Sarah had always been fit, she had never had the tone this woman has. And Jack had never lit up when she appeared the way he did now.
"Sarah, this is my wife Colonel Samantha Carter. You met several years ago briefly." He introduced proudly.
"Its nice to meet you, again" Samantha told her, smiling. Sara just smiled back numbly. " we have to go Jack, Daniel is probably being exhausted by David and Vala."
That's when she walked up to him. He said this is my wifeI gave my best smile, but I was dying inside
He said we've gotta go now, its getting late it was so good to see you
And then they walked away. And Still
The world stood still I couldn't move and
All I could feel was this aching in my heart saying I loved him still
"David and Vala?" Sarah asked, slightly stunned.
"Yeah," Jack replied, "he is our adopted 4 year old boy. Vala is Daniels wife. But we do have to go, its time to decorate the tree, David's first ever. It was nice seeing you again Sarah." The couple continued on their way while what was left of Sarah's heart broke.
