The Day the Mist Burned - Prologue...

"People with the power to summon monsters... Summoners... They really do exist... Incredible."

"Mommy! You killed my mother's dragon!"

"I'm sorry. W-we didn't know!"

"Mommy!"

-----

"No! Stay away from me!"

"Come on! We have to go!"
"No! I-I hate you! You killed my mommy!"

"Wh...what happened?" Roselyn murmered, her voice cracking due to the smoke she had inhaled during her period of unconciousness. She had managed to escape her home just before it exploded upon the impact of a Bomb fiend. Her body had been sent soaring through the air, until it came crashing down near a row of wooden barrels adjacent to another hut. Crawling behind the barrels on shaky limbs, she then had passed out...

"Get away!"

"Was that...Rydia?" Reaching up to take the rim of the nearest barrel in her hand, she pulled herself to her feet. Her view focusing, three figures emerged from the sea of flames encompassing the village. 'The village is on fire!' She dared not speak out loud anymore than she already had because she knew the two taller, armored figures were not allies. No, far from it...

No sooner than she was about to step forward, thus slowly inching her way closer to the scene, than the ground began to tremble. She staggered back, bumping into the barrels that were now behind her, discovering that they were empty when they toppled over, taking Roselyn with them. Her eyes widened, and she threw her forearm across her mouth to keep from screaming. 'Rydia!'

She heard the green-haired child scream, and, as if in response, the earth shook more violently, bellowing as, Roselyn knew, Rydia's only summon, Titan, was being drawn to the surface. A Bomb zipped past her, and she ducked to keep from being burned. 'Rydia, stop! You'll destroy the village! Rydia!'

Titan's Earthquake commenced, and once again, Roselyn fell into the depths of her subconcious...

"Mount Holt," Roselyn murmered, her gaze rising upward to the peaks of the mountain of legend. "...Where the King of Baron became a Paladin." Taking in a deep breath, she held it for a moment, and then slowly released it, her chest falling in reaction. What had drawn her here, to this place?
