A/N: For the Tattoo Challenge. Sorry it took me so long (I kind of forgot). Of course I own nothing. Prompt #9
Ron lay in bed with his wife; his shirt had long ago been tossed away from the heat of the night. He was having trouble falling asleep. His wife lay next to him, curled into his side peacefully. Ron thought back to when they first got together. It was all such a blur; there was the war, and then so many people dying. Among them was Hermione, someone he thought he would spend the rest of his life with.
Ron rolled over and looked down at the beautiful woman next to him; some good had come from the war. If so many lives had not been lost he would have never consoled Tonks that day, and she wouldn't be lying in his arms tonight. It was sad to think fallen comrades were the reason he and his wife were together, but such things happen in a life of war.
Tonks stirred next to him and opened her eyes groggily, "You're still awake Love?" She yawned.
"Yes… I can't get to sleep." Ron sighed. He stretched and pulled her closer to him until she was lying on his chest, resting his hand on her protruding belly.
She looked down at his chest and her bright purple hair turned a dull shade of brown. She traced the large tattoo of an eagle with his wings spread, under the wings as if being protected there was a young witch and a smiling scarred-face older wizard. Tonks smiled sadly and kissed the tattoo on the eagles head.
Ron sighed and rolled over, "Goodnight Love." He whispered hoarsely. This was their ritual, every night she kisses his tattoo gently. She knows he hates it because it makes him remember.
"Ron…" She whispered sadly, "It's okay to remember sometimes."
"I don't want to remember Dora." Ron grumbled, wiping a tear from his eye.
"But… if we don't remember, how will this baby ever know the heroes that fought for him to be here?" Tonks crossed her arms angrily.
"I just want to forget the pain… so much pain…" Ron sounded exhausted.
Tonks bent down and kissed him lightly, "It's over now Ron, we're free." She whispered. "And so are they… freer than any of us."
A/N: This didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it to. The eagle obviously represents freedom incase you thought it was just something random.
