I just finished Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance and I was like, ...POR QUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE? So, er, spoilers, obviously.
Very short piece conveying my feelings about Isa's role in Kingdom Hearts 3D.
I HATE YOU SQUEENIX YOU HAD BETTER PUT THIS RIGHT IN KH3 OR I WILL WRITE A STRONGLY WORDED LETTER. And also fanfiction correcting your heinous crimes against video game character friendships.
White had never much appealed to Axel, nor to Lea, for that matter. His naturally crimson mane of spikes had set the tone for his pallet preference – warm colors, like those of the sun. Red shoes, orange jacket, yellow bandanna. He had often been likened to a living flame, both in wardrobe and in personality. Completely unlike Saïx – Isa – no, still Saïx. He had blue hair. Green – yellow? – eyes. A fondness for cool colors. Cool as a cucumber in the worst of situations. The embodiment of the moon, some said.
They should have clashed horribly, but instead they had found that each complemented and completed the other. Lea had come up with the ideas, Isa had made sure that they worked out. Lea had gotten them into trouble, Isa had talked them out of it. Lea had done his best to defeat every person who walked the streets of Radiant Garden in a duel, Isa had laughed when he got knocked down and patched him up afterward. They were yin and yang, partners in crime, but most of all, best friends.
So why had it been so different for their Nobodies? Saïx wasn't generally openly hostile toward Axel, possibly due to a lingering sentimentality, but he wasn't exactly friendly toward his former friend either. Their personalities simply hadn't translated to their Nobody existences with any shred of compatibility remaining. Without the joy that Lea had brought Isa with his tomfoolery and shenanigans, the redhead was simply a nuisance to the business-minded bluenette. It was understandable, subjectively, since they weren't supposed to have hearts. Still, some shred of muscle in Axel's hollow chest still ached when he caught Saïx's eye and his grin was returned with an eye roll or, worse, nothing at all.
Then Sora had come and Axel was Lea again. But what about Isa? Why had he been gone when Lea had come to? Why had he been by Ansem's side? Why had he attacked Lea, looked him straight in the eye with nothing more than a disapproving frown? He had only just gotten his heart back and already it was causing him a pain worse than the death he had endured in his previous life.
Lea stared at the whitewashed wall of the Castle That Never Was, hugging his knees to his chest, and shut his eyelids tightly against the tears he felt stinging eyes. Black suited him better.
