Carnations

On the first week of Hogwarts, Lily breaks a rule for the first time. Stemming from an old rule, first year students are forbidden from performing any conjuring or transfiguring magic without teacher supervision for fear of irreversible accidents, but Lily does it any way.

She wants her first true act of controlled magic to be something for her family in Cokeworth.

On Friday morning, Petunia wakes to a tap-tap on glass. Cautiously venturing forth, she nearly screams at the sight of a small tawny owl pecking on a glass with a small package attached to its leg. When she slowly opens the window, she takes the package from the owl at arm's length and hurriedly shoos it away into the morning. Opening it, two fresh, yellow and pink carnations tumble out. They prove to be magic when none of them ever wilt. Even so, she secretly keeps them till the end.

Yellow carnations means "wish you were here" and pink says, "you're unforgettable."
