Notes: … I cannot believe I wrote this. I swear, I can't. OTL I might even write a longer fic based off of this drabble. Oh god, Masa and BB, why are you doing this to me. XD

Disclaimer: I don't own Tenimyu, or any of these actors. I just find them to be extremely adorable dorks.

If there was one thing Baba Tooru wanted to keep for himself – one that he wanted to have completely for his own, it would probably be a certain someone's smile.

A certain someone with the name of Masataka Nakagauchi.

But as much as he wished that he could have Masa and his smile just for him, he knew it wasn't possible. Masa just wasn't the type to be caged – he was as free as an eagle soaring the skies. Beautifully unhindered by anything.

And Baba didn't have the heart to take that away. He didn't want to be the one to cage such beauty, to trap something so precious. He may wish, but he was no fool to think and act upon his selfishness.

More than that, he knew that Masa had so much in store for him in the future. He knew that the man could reach far – he could travel all over the world and let them stare in awe of his dancing. Baba himself loved to watch Masa dance, and this he wasn't ashamed of saying. But if there was anything Baba surely knew about his own self, it was that he was possessive.

He never liked sharing, even as a child. He would pout and get angry with his older brother whenever said person borrowed his things. He liked keeping those he treasured close to himself, away from the reach of others. And that hadn't changed even after all these years.

That was why it hurt so much, Baba had realized long ago. He realized that that was why his heart clenched painfully whenever he saw Masa smile at others, whenever he danced in front of the stage for all to see. He realized that, as much as he loved him, he couldn't stand the thought of sharing him with the rest of the world.

And that was also why Baba learned to distance himself. He grew used to not initiating physical contact with Masa, and learned to ignore how it hurt to see the older man being with others. It was also why, as Tenimyu was coming to a close, Baba couldn't help but feel as if his one-sided romance was about to reach its bittersweet end as well.

Because once it was over, he wouldn't have to deal with it anymore. He wouldn't have to stand seeing the one he loved share his smiles and his affection with anyone else. He could be free from the jealousy, the hidden frustration – everything.

It gave him a slight relief, even if it meant he would have less of those smiles coming his way as well.

Nevertheless, Baba knew that it was all for the best. When he had started distancing himself from Masa, he had realized that it never would have worked. He couldn't keep Masa all to himself, even if he had tried to.

The man was too much for one person to keep, his smile too bright for one person alone. Which was why, Baba had learned to let him go. He wasn't abandoning him, he wasn't going to drop their friendship – he would only learn to accept that he could never have Masa entirely.

But that was okay. Because even if he had to share Masa with the world, Baba knew that he was one of the closest friends that the other man had ever had. There was a space in Masataka Nakagauchi's heart reserved for him, a space larger than for any of his fans or his admirers. No matter how many other people would watch him dance, no matter many more smiles he would give out – the affection he showed Baba Tooru would be just a little more precious, a little more heartfelt than the rest.

And because of that, Baba Tooru didn't mind if he had to share. Just this once.
