THEOLOGY
Roy Mustang didn't believe in God.
He didn't believe there was a person that had a power different to theirs…the alchemists, a power that many believed was able to do amazing things, some called them 'miracles'.
The alchemist of the flame had learnt not to trust in that person…once…many years ago, when he was still a child, he was a believer. But when entering to the military he began having doubts about its magnificence. The war in Ishbal began, carrying everything but that promised paradise…destruction…corpses everywhere…death…desolation…panic… and sadness, it was all he knew for the time being.
And the only thing he could believe in wasn't any more the existence of God, in its place that celestial image was replaced for that of demons, creatures that unlike God, their hand and power over the earth was easy to overlook. And Ishbal was the most palpable example of their being and destruction.
"Colonel Mustang, are you alright?" Her soft voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
"Hawkeye, what are you doing here? It's not your turn to do guard" He spoke with his head bent low, with all those thought still running around his head.
"Yes, I know…It's just that I was worried about you Colonel" She answered back slowly, sitting next to him, watching in silence the slow motion of the flames dancing in front of her.
"You know Hawkeye, lately I've been wondering, why are we still in this place? Why are we still caught in the middle of this massacre? What do we fight for if we have achieved nothing?"
"We have, Colonel, we fight to preserve hope, for those outside, for the rest, to remind them that not everything is dark in this world"
"And who is there to remind us that Hawkeye? If I can't believe in no one, not even God, like other people do"
His words and his lost look, wrapped in one of those cruel scenes that had taken place in there made her do something she had thought of doing for so long, but never realized. She framed Roy's face with her hands, motioning him towards her and finally facing each other. He hadn't quite understood the situation when she pulled closer and brushed her lips lightly against his, trying to remind him the cause of him being there.
"In me Colonel… You can trust me and in what I feel for you"
She answered in a whisper, still holding his face between her hands and offering him a warm smile. The last and only thing he could do was to wrap her in his arms, contemplating once again the slow motion of the fire.
Roy Mustang did not believe in no other superior being but her… the woman in his arms… the one that had accompanied him through most of his life…and who had reminded him various times, with the same passion, the reason for his existence. And if there really was a God, for him, it was the woman he loved… Riza Hawkeye.
