A CRASH

There was snow on the ground but the creek had not yet frozen over. The creek was located about 2 miles from the bus. The trees were all bare with no protection and there was a slightly chilling breeze. Steve had been looking for Layla for a couple hours, mostly searching around town but had now decided that he knew where she was. The creek; the only place he hadn't looked. When the bus broke down he and Layla were the youngest couple on the bus. There was only about twenty people total on the bus. Layla had gotten into a feud with one of the older ladies about something, and had stormed off. Weeks earlier they had been the happiest couple ever, but now after this crash things had changed. He himself and Layla, even the people on the bus; all changed. But right now that was not his main concern, Layla was what he was focusing on or trying to focus on. She always was tough and never listened, or even reasoned. If there was problem or fight she would just leave. As simple and innocent as it sounded it did a lot more damage than anybody could imagine. Her family and friends quickly turned on her and she simply walked away, dismissing them as nothing. "But me" Steve thought, "the only one who ever cared, I stuck with her, well mostly followed her. But still stayed with her no matter what" That's why this time things were odd, after getting pissed and walking off she left without telling him. Usually she would come and blab to him about it and try for some pity, but this time was different. This time she was different.

The bus it seemed had been sitting there abandoned, for years. But it had only been a day, hadn't it? Two at most, never three; anyway they had been there for a couple hours it seemed and at first panicked, but after a while people settled and found things to stay occupied. There was snow on the ground but no one was complaining of the cold. Even the little children were silent, all just walking about or coloring in their books. To think of it Steve hadn't felt much of anything after the crash. The cold did not bite at him like usual and he did not once hear one of Layla's usual complaints. And cold of all things, she should have been whining for hours by now, but instead was gone. Once Steve remembered the creek he knew she was there. So he began his two mile hike to the special creek that the two had found. Now to think of it had him and Layla found it yesterday or the day before. Not surely three days ago, they had just crashed, just arrived. Anyway, Steve pushed these thought out of his head and began his two mile hike in search of his future wife, Layla.
