Lost and its characters belong to JJ Abrams and his wonderful cast and crew. I'm just borrowing for some non-profit fun. Written in response to the Lostfichallenge "Humor" challenge. Not sure just how funny it'll come across, but it was a good release after this last week! Summary – Kate and Walt wonder where the world went.
Lost – The Missing
By Mystic
September 22nd 2005
Kate opened her eyes and listened as the scream she'd just released echoed against the white nothing that surrounded her. She gave one more shout of Jack's name. It was the fourth, maybe the fifth. She wasn't sure, but counting to five sure as hell didn't make her feel any better now. She jerked her head, seeing Walt emerge from nowhere.
She figured she'd be used to something like that. He was kid. A creepy kid. A creepy kid she'd managed to avoid for the last forty days. His eyes bugged slightly and he pointed a finger at her. "Ereh teg uoy did woh?"
Wrinkling her nose, she stared at him, starting to shake her head. "What?"
"EREH teg UOY did WOH?" He raised his hand and twisted one finger around, pointing the other to his lips and watched as she continued to stare at him.
Raising her hands, she sighed, "Sorry, Walt, still not understanding. Is this some kind of pig Latin? 'Cause, we don't really have time…"
He went to her, grabbing her arms and staring up at her, pressing his lips together. "Sdrawkcab!"
"Draw a cab." She wrinkled her brow, "What the hell are you talking about?"
Walt released her and took a step back, pointing to her and then pointing to the ground. He watched. He waited. He jerked his head forward while flaring his nose. Kate mimicked the motion and then glanced around.
"How did I get here?" She asked, curiously.
Walt smacked his forehead.
Kate lowered her eyebrows at him. "What?"
"Deska I tahw s'taht!" He sighed.
"What?"
"Dnimreven." Walt smacked his thigh and splashed water, making Kate jerk back away from him as she wiped at her face.
"Why the hell are you soaked?"
Walt raised an eyebrow.
"Where did my shoes go?" She glanced down at her bare feet.
"Skcos raew uoy t'nod yhw?" Walt asked.
Kate stared at him again, thinking and then nodded her heads. "Ok, why in the hell are you talking backwards?"
Walt shrugged.
"Where are we?"
Walt shrugged again.
"Why aren't you saying anything?"
He stared at her.
"Where's Jack?"
Walt sat on the ground and flicked at the water that dripped continuously from his chin.
"Where's Locke? The hatch? The jungle? The world?" Kate nudged his thigh with her bare toes and Walt smacked them away.
"Nam, maj eot!"
"I do NOT!" Kate stared down at her feet. "That's mud."
"Ssorg."
Kate snorted, grinning. "Ssorg yourself, kid."
He folded his hands in his lap and listened to her ask question after question that he couldn't answer and in the end, she sat, hands folded in her lap, across from him. "So," Kate finally sighed. "How long before they figure out how to find us?"
Walt raised his head and closed his eyes, wondering just the same thing for very different reasons.
