The cool air blew evenly over every seat in the first class cabin. The clear skies and the high level of guest satisfaction promised a pleasurable flight. Everything was perfect, save the unhappiness of one tiny passenger. "Honey, it's okay. You'll be alright, sweetheart." Little Savannah screamed at the top of her lungs, her terror annoying virtually everyone aboard. ADA Casey Novak bounced her screaming daughter on her lap, cooing to her softly, hoping against hope that she would eventually fall asleep.

"Maybe she wants her binkie." Olivia reached into the diaper bag and retrieved their daughter's favorite pacifier.

But as Casey attempted to silence the child, the little girl spit it out and resumed crying. The exasperated attorney groaned, throwing her head against the window beside her. "Imagine if she does this for the entire flight," she sighed.

Olivia gently removed the infant from her wife's arms, holding her up to her face. "Hey you," the brunette murmured. "Mommy needs some sleep, alright? It's okay. We aren't leaving you, princess." The next several minutes witnessed a period of calming. Savannah eventually fell asleep an hour into the flight.

Casey, who had been up for several days with little sleep in between, slowly dozed into an easy sleep, her head resting on her wife's shoulder. Olivia, embracing her wife and their baby, eventually succumbed to a light sleep herself.

After an unknown period of time, both of them woke to the sound of their daughter's screams. Casey quickly understood the cause of the abrupt awakening, and sighed when she realized how heavy the turbulence had become. It rocked the plane, as if determined to prevent anyone present from resting. Casey glanced over at the elderly couple sitting in the seats across the aisle from them. "Sorry," she apologized in response to their reproving glares. "She's only a year old. This is her first flight."

The couple scoffed, turning their backs to Casey, Olivia, and Savannah. Suddenly, Casey gasped. "What, what is it?" Olivia asked, opening one eye blearily.

"Watch," Casey answered. Reaching for the diaper bag under the seat, she unzipped it, retrieving a toy from its depths. "Look, Savannah. It's your monkey!"

Savannah shrieked, taking the stuffed animal from her mother's arms. She began to gnaw on its ear, cooing happily. "There. Instant silence," Casey murmured. She held Savannah in such a way that the little one could see out of the window beside them. "Look, honey," she murmured. "Look out there. See the sky? We're flying!" She kissed the child softly, smiling. Savannah, uninterested, resumed gnawing on her monkey.

Olivia leaned over, kissing Casey softly. "Here, let me hold her," the detective requested, smiling as Casey again transferred the contented baby into her arms. "I will keep her calm while you get some sleep."

"Olivia, you need sleep too," Casey pointed out.

Olivia shrugged. "Believe me, I have lasted much longer than this without sleep. Now, are you going to rest, or do I have to yell at you?" she asked, kissing the attorney's forehead.

"Alright, alright, I'll go to sleep," Casey agreed, playfully rolling her eyes. Resting her head against the cool window pane, the attorney succumbed to exhaustion within seconds of closing her eyes. It was going to be a long flight.
