In the space between night and day, the normal human sleeps.
Light sleeps.
In that cycle, humans dream. Dreams are made from memories of what we've done and seen. They have no meaning, although we still are left with their impressions.
The dream, in a sense, has power over the dreamer.

Light is dreaming.
The current time is: years and hours and minutes and seconds after L's death.
Who else is he dreaming about but L.
L is moving his mouth. He's talking. He's stark naked, unashamed. He's a perfect imitation of what the living L was. He's distorted.
Light wants to be closer. Despite being Kira, his subconscious remains as Light.
And Light loved L.
In the horrible, twisted way we use the word love is how Light felt for L. Who, by the way, is still talking.
Light listens.
"It's time to wake up." he says.
The fully awakened Light looks at the Death Note.
There's a sour taste in his mouth.
