Hi everybody!
I hope you'll like this OS (it could be in my story 'In search of missing scenes')
Enjoy !
Bittersweet geometry
Tick. Tock.
"You're drawing squares on my chest."
"You have your hand on my ass."
Tick. Tock.
Jane's eyebrows settled into a frown and Lisbon heaved a sigh.
"I thought we were stating facts."
"Why no circles?"
"Why would I draw circles?"
Tick. Tock.
"You're right, no circles. But why squares then?"
"I'm not very skilled at hexagons."
It was Jane's turn to release a sigh as he pondered her answers. Tick. Tock. The steady rise and fall of his chest under Lisbon's fingers kept up with the rhythm of his heartbeat.
"Life doesn't work that way; it never follows the perfect shape of a circle. Not for me and definitely not for you. So why would I draw circles?"
"Well, if you look at it that way...sure. Still, I'd be eternally grateful if you don't say the sentence that's been running through your mind."
"Which one? The one that starts with 'we shouldn't have' and ends with 'big mistake'?"
"That would be the one, yes."
Tick. Tock.
"Okay. I won't say it."
"I appreciate it."
Tick. The blonde and brunette seemed to take another deep breath at the same time, before exhaling wearily. Tock.
Only the faint sound of the clock's ticking reminded them that time hadn't stopped. Nothing else in the room suggested that two people were on the verge of putting an end to a happiness that had only just seen the light.
"Lisbon," Jane groaned, a trace of a smile clearly evident in his voice. "You're writing the forbidden phrase on my chest. "
She stopped mid-sentence and let out a laugh.
"I was wondering when you'd notice…"
Tick. Jane's hand left its comfortable spot and travelled up her spine, all the way to the nape of her neck. Tock. Lisbon felt shivers running down her back and suddenly there was a lump in her throat as she scooted closer to him, determined to close any space left between them.
"Hold me," she whispered.
Tick. She could feel his arms encircle her waist, pulling her closer as his hands rested on her back. Tock.
"Tighter. Because this was the first and last time, Jane."
"I know."
"Tighter still…"
Tick. She couldn't remember ever having been in someone's arms like this before. She couldn't remember ever having felt such happiness and despair in just one hug.
A first and final hug.
Tock.
