The writings of Jack Sparrow.
People like to think they know me, but they don't. They've heard of me, some have even dealt with me, but they still don't know me. I don't know me half the time. Too drunk to form a single sentence together and too bloody caught up in rum to even walk straight.
I don't mind, I like me. I accept me-I'm the bravest Pirate I know! The only person who ever knew me well: who ever knew my innermost secrets is dead. She died the year I found freedom. Freedom is very important to me. It was to her, too, but now freedom is hers to take, to have and to keep forever. I miss her so much. I loved her so much, but now she's gone I have to get on with my life. That's what she would've wanted. That's what I'll give her.
My fight for Freedom isn't an easy one. I'm outlawed, plotted against. I've been shot at, chased after, captured, re-captured and beaten up a few times, but that's nothing. I can handle a little bit of jealously from those rich people who have everything. Everything but freedom. Too caught up in their money and reputations to know what real life is all about. Things have been handed to them on a plate, things have been taken from me on a plate. I might steel, kill, disrespect and act disorderly, but that's only because I'm not like them. If they left me to be who I wanted to be, I wouldn't have to do all of those things. I never asked to be a pirate, I was born into it, but I have no regrets. I would much rather be a "swashbuckling scallywag" than to be a rich man with no passion for life. I don't know how they can sit on their high-back expensive chairs drinking expensive wine out of gold goblets or tankards all day when the world is out there waiting to be discovered. How can they spend day after day planning what they're going to spend their money on and what fancy clothes they should wear for their next important gathering of high class peoples when a vast horizon waits to be sailed to.
That's my life, my free life. Things are stolen, things are taken, but the freedom of adventure and life are mine. I don't need money for that. I don't need riches and expensive wine or gold goblets and tankards. I don't need bucketloads of money and fancy clothes and high-class friends. I've got the sea. I've got undiscovered islands to find I've got every day to do as I please, when I please. I have a plan to what I'm going to do each day, I don't have a specific time to be up or when I go to bed. I'm a wanderer, a flyer, and an outlaw.
But I have got my freedom. And even if I am outlawed and plotted against, shot at, chased, beaten up, captured and re-captured, I know that the sea is mine and I can travel it whenever I please. I have got the greatest gift that any man can posses, and I don't think I'd like it any other way.
