Well, my first Saiyuki fic was a moderate success, so I am hoping for more love.

Disclaimers are on my profile.

"Oi, Hakkai. What're you doing out here?"

Cho Hakkai looked up at the red-haired man beside him. "Just… thinking, and watching the stars. It's a beautiful night out, isn't it?"

Gojyo dropped down next to him and stared up. "Yeah, I guess so. But I meant, why're you out here and not inside playing cards or something? Hell, with your luck you could win us enough money for the rest of the week."

Hakkai laughed softly. "Why aren't you in there, cheating for the same results?"

The kappa scowled, and pulled out a cigarette. "Nah. 've been having a bad streak lately. Remember the brawl in the last bar?"

The calmer man glanced at him. "Oh? You didn't tell me you caused that one."

"Mph. Bastards caught me with an ace up my sleeve an' overreacted."

"Ahaha. And of course, that called for three overturned tables and a broken arm."

"Dammit, I told you the arm wasn't my fault! How was I supposed to know he'd move right into my kick like that?"

"And the tables?"

"Every bar brawl has overturned tables. It's fun."

"Right."

They lapsed into silence, looking at the tiny points of light that filled the sky.

"Hey. We'd better get back inside before baldie gets fed up and kills the monkey."

"Wait." A hand caught Gojyo's arm before he could stand up. "They can survive for a few more minutes."

Hakkai lay back on the grass, Gojyo squatting next to him.

"Do you think…"

There was silence for a moment, and the red-haired man glanced over. "Contrary to popular belief, I do use my brain occasionally. Do I think what?"

"Hm. Do you think there's any point to this? Our journey… life?"

"Heh. I sure hope so, or this is one big freakin' waste of my time. A pain in the ass, too."

The dark-haired man smiled. "You always have such a way of putting it."

Gojyo looked like he was considering something. Then he leaned over, grabbed the other man's hands and pressed his forehead against Hakkai's. "You don't need a reason or a point for life. Have fun, get laid, look back with no regrets, yeah? Keep smiling and start living, Hakkai. Before it's too late."

Hakkai looked startled, green eyes staring up into blood red ones. Gojyo moved back, stood up, and held out his hand. "C'mon inside. It's getting chilly out here."

He took the hand offered to him, and they walked back to the inn.

"Silence or death, monkey!" Sanzo yelled, waving his gun at Goku, who was complaining of hunger.

Hakkai smiled, and pulled a pack of cards out of his pocket. "Anyone up for a friendly game of poker?"
