A/N- This is my first Runescape story, but I've been playing the game for years. Emily is actually based upon my own character and experiences in the game, from when I first started, up until now. I'll have another chapter of Em as a 16 year old, and then we'll move two years into the future, where she is 18- the age I am now.
Emily's Endeavour
Em smiled, determined that no one would guess how she really felt. She was scared at the idea of moving alone to Lumbridge when her father Ralph and his new love moved to Yanille the next day. However, she knew his reluctance to leave her was really only guilt from being such a bad father figure to her, and he really wanted to start a new life with his partner.
"Father, I'll be okay. Really, I will."
Em was 16, and she'd lived with her father in a small house in Varrock since her mother had died when she was younger. Em's father had never really made an effort with her; he preferred to drink away his worries in the Blue Moon Inn. Emily had made friends with many of the local poor people who weren't wealthy enough to move out of Misthalin or beyond the land of Asgarnia. To many of Em's friends, Kandarin was merely a mystery, even though they slaved every day trying to earn enough money to eat a decent meal.
Emily mainly helped her father by chopping wood, cooking meat he brought home and smelting the ores he mined. She had attended a local school near Al Kharid until the day she turned 14, and from then onwards she had learnt skills like how to cook over an open fire. When Em was 11, she and her father has moved into a beautiful house just east of Varrock Palace. It was small, but they were happy there. Ralph had mainly earned money by creating armour from the metal bars Em would smelt every morning, and they ate a grand meal of meat every night. They were lucky, many of the people Em knew lived in the south of Varrock and were homeless, resorting to theft to earn a living and rarely ate more than potatoes and cabbage.
But everything had changed. Ralph had met a woman and they were moving to Yanille. Em hated her father's new lover and had originally planned to stay in Varrock, however after a rather heated conversation with a palace guard, she was told she simply would not be able to afford to continue leaving so close to the palace without her father's steady income. He felt sorry for the girl, though, and had told her she should move to Lumbridge. Em had only been there a couple of times for she had been born and raised in Varrock, so she felt slightly uneasy about moving to a new village. One of her friends lived in Al Kharid but visited Lumbridge often, and told her about the goblins that were all over the east side of the village! She had never engaged in combat before, so was worried.
Of course, Em hadn't told her father of her plans to move to Lumbridge. He was a very proud man, and loved telling people his daughter was a true Varrock girl. He was only moving to Yanille because his partner was wealthy enough to afford to leave the border of Asgarnia. No, Ralph had found her a room in the nearby Inn, for only 200 coins a night. He'd instructed Em on how to go to the main bank and buy ores and raw meats for as low as she possibly could, then cook the meats and smelt the ores. He'd told her how to sell the food at the entrance to the Wilderness, although forbidding her to ever step in there. As for the metal bars, she would sell them near the anvils. However, Em didn't like the idea of living at the Inn, and was sure she'd be able to make a decent living in Lumbridge.
She had no idea how wrong she was.
