"Excuse me. Can you tell me the way to Baker Street from here?"
It's been eight; no wait, nine years since I was last here. And by gosh does it feel good to be back.
"Third road on the left."
"Thank you."
I carry on walking along the road before taking the third left.
Ah, Baker Street.
Specifically, 221B Baker Street.
Home to one Mr Sherlock Holmes.
I knock loudly on the door and instantly hear voices inside.
"John, can you get it? I'm thinking."
He hasn't changed, I can tell just from his choice of words.
"Yes Sherlock."
The second voice sounds closer than the first, and moments later the door is opened by a light haired man, who looks at me with a puzzled expression.
"Hello?"
"Hi. I'm looking for Mrs Hudson."
"She's not in right now. Perhaps I can tell her that you came by, when she returns. If you leave your number, I shall get her to call you."
"Oh John! Just bring her up here."
"Are you sure Sherlock?"
"Yes. She might be of a bit more use than you right now."
"Thanks Sherlock. Follow me."
I step into the hallway and close the door behind me. John is already halfway up the stairs and I follow him quickly.
At the top of the stairs we enter into a living room where a dark haired man is staring out of the window.
"Sherlock Holmes. Consulting Detective. And you are?"
He turns to face me, recognition flickering in his eyes.
"Hello. I'm Beatrice. But you already knew that, didn't you Mr Holmes. Or should I say brother. "
Sherlock's face breaks into a slight smile and he steps forward to quickly embrace me.
"Nine years? Why did it take you so long?"
"I was eight years old Sherlock. It is not that easy to convince foster parents to let you go to London alone when you are only eight years old. Especially when they think that you are not quite right in the head."
"That is just one thing that we have in common isn't it dear sister."
"Yes. Yes it is."
"You look confused John."
"No. No. Just trying to work this out."
"Work what out? It's simple.
Bea, this is John Watson. Doctor John Watson, my friend and former roommate.
John, this is Beatrice Holmes. My younger and incredibly intelligent sister.
Any questions?"
