I do not own Voyager or any of the characters. (Pity, though)
A/N Don't you wonder what happens „backstage" on a starship?
How do the toilets work, what is it, Neelix really cooks and why is there everywhere carpet on the floor?
And who keeps them clean?
Enjoy!
Night shift
Janeway had worked on for hours and now she had a stretch. If there was something in being the captain she really didn't like it was the exasperating red tape , but it happened to be in the job's description. She decided to indulge herself in another cup of coffee and then walk to her quarters and go to bed.
A glance at the clock however told her that there were only two hours left till her duty began again at 08.00. Nevertheless, a coffee would fit the bill. She carried her cup to her coffee table where she intended to relax with her coffee and a book. Even a captain deserved a break, she found.
She had just settled in when a virtually infernal racket coming from the bridge invaded her ready-room and literally catapulted her from her couch.
Annoyed she pursed her lips, placed her cup on her table and went to the bridge to take care of that matter.
The night shift, commanded by Harry Kim, did their usual business, just Neelix appeared to be out of place. He had some kind of bulky device with him which caused this noise and with which he extensively fidgeted.
Loudly, in order to drown the noise out, she called:
"Neelix, cut the damn thing off!"
Instantly, silence returned. Janeway frowned and examined the offending object closer.
"What the hell are you doing there?" She wanted to know. "And what kind of device is that?"
"Well, Captain, as you may have heard, the cleaning servos broke down and this device is immensely practical," the small Talaxian assured her eagerly. "I bought it at our last trading mission, the flavour of the month in interstellar technology."
"This is all very well, but cut to the chase. What are you doing with this 'flavour of the month' at six in the morning on my bridge?" Janeway demanded to know, now more resolutely.
"Like I said the cleaning servos failed and the carpet of the bridge looks after a long working day anything but clean, so I come here around six every morning and do what has to be done."
He patted the monster at his side meaningful and smiled.
"With this the floor is presentable in no time at all and supersedes the servos. The Vortians really were right when they told me that this was a phenomenal acquirement. They called it a 'vacuum cleaner'."
