The cold air swirled around the two figures as they walked, one slightly taller than the other. They reached a small house hurrying in to avoid the cold gusts of wind.

"Lily" James called out as he stepped inside

"In here" floated the reply from the kitchen

James and Sirius traipsed down the hall toward the kitchen. Rounding the corner and entering the kitchen they found that Lily was not alone.

"Harry?" James asked frowning, the boy in question stood leaning casually against the kitchen counter, arms folded and grinning at his father. His hair so like James stood out at all ends and green eyes sparkled through rimmed glasses at James and Sirius.

"James" Lily said, putting down the knife she was using and placing her hands on the counter, she stood looking at James as she continued "why don't you ask your son why he got sent home?"

"Ah come on mum" Harry said pushing off the counter and moving so he was leaning beside his mother "they only sent me home because term ends in two days"

"You got sent home?" Sirius said grinning; Harry grinned back at his godfather

"Tell your father why you got sent home" Lily said ignoring both son and godfather

"Some Slytherin's were being rude" Harry said shrugging as if it was the most obvious thing "so I made sure they wouldn't be rude again" Sirius snorted at the casual tone Harry used

"We taught you well" Sirius said chuckling

"Tell him in detail please" Lily said, James could see she wasn't as furious as she was making out to be, just slightly annoyed

"They were picking on Sophie" Harry said staring innocently at his father

"That is not the point" lily said "now hurry up and tell your father what you did" she stopped and turned to face Harry glaring at him menacingly "before I make you"

"Well" Harry said swallowing nervously and standing up straighter "as I said they were picking on Sophie and the language they were using wasn't very nice so I decided a nice dunk in the lake and a bit of a mouth wash out with soap would do"

"The rest" Lily said impatiently

"their friends didn't agree" Harry continued "to make a long story short things turned physical and I ended up knocking one of the Slytherin's unconscious"

"That's my boy" James said grinning

"James Potter" Lily said rounding on him "you did not just say that"

James imitating Harry's move from earlier, swallowed nervously and shifted his weight uncomfortably, Sirius chuckled behind him.

"You know you would think after how many years of marriage" Sirius said addressing Harry "that your father wouldn't be afraid of your mother"

"Im not afraid" James said, he was grinning at Lily, who was fighting hard to keep a straight face. Finally she threw her hands up in the air with a sigh and turned away.

"Fine, fine' she said "I suppose because your sister was involved there was a good reason but" she said turning and pointing a finger at Harry "if this happens again don't think I'll be so forgiving"

"Never" Harry replied grinning down at his mother, as James wrapped an arm around his shoulders and Sirius threw him a wink.

"And why is it" James began thoughtfully "he's always my son when he's in trouble?"

"I think" Lily replied, turning to face James "that it's fairly obvious why, considering you are the one who taught him all his trouble making ways"

"You bet we did" Sirius butted in grinning mischievously "we have to pass our methods on to the next generation Lils, you should know this"
