Earth, Ruins of Old Moscow, 3 Months after The Human/Covenant War
"Yo, Chief, there's no more covies on Earth. We kicked their ass from here to the Orion Belt". Came the voice from Sergeant Johnson's cigar filled mouth. "Why are we out here doing a recruits job"?
Replaying on his suits speakers, "Just because there is no more Covenant on Earth does not mean that they did not leave any traps for us to kill ourselves on, and you volunteered us remember. Saying something about how you where getting to old for this shit and needed a holiday ".
Bah, don't remind me. Besides I am getting to old for this shit, and someday so will you, ya walking tank.
"Both of you two be quiet"! Said the A.I. Cortana, over the Chief's speakers. "I could be doing something else to you know, like designing new weapons to better kill the Covenant. Hang on a second; I'm detecting an energy source in that collapsed building over there. I have never seen an energy reading like this before. Chief take me in for a closer look."
All right Cortana, Johnson lock and load, we're going in.
…Couple minutes later…
The Chief was looking around the nearly destroyed room, when Johnson caught his attention.
"Would ya look at this? Hey Cortana, this what your looking for? It sure aint the prettiest thing I've ever seen." Said Johnson as he began to wipe dust off an object in the far corner of the room
Cortana replying in kind, "Yes it is. Chief bring me closer."
The Master Chief stepped closer to the mirror like object. "Amazing" said Cortana, "I have never seen anything like it before. The inside of it appears to be a mirror, but there is no reflecting coming from it.
Now what do you suppose this doohickey is for? Said Johnson talking to no one in particular, as he bent down to pick up a roundish, ovelish object.
In a brief fluke of coincidences, as the Master Chief touched the mirror, Johnson started to fiddle with the device. The mirror device activated with an image of a room on the other side, and the Chief along with Cortana vanished. Johnson looked up in time to see the Chief disappear, and appear what seemed liked inside the mirror.
As Johnson stepped closer to examine the image, dust fell from the roof and landed on his head. Johnson looked up to see some of the building support beams start to fall. Johnson jumped barely out of the way, his cigar falling from his mouth, as the beams fell and crashed onto the mirror.
Johnson picked himself up from the ground coughing. Looking at the damage, Johnson noticed that the device was smashed into a couple of pieces.
HQ is not going to believe this one. Said Sergeant Johnson, as he bent down to pick up his cigar, and relit it.
Notes. Up dates are going to be far between, as i am going to be a dad for the first time, and my girlfriend will kill me if I do not spend all my waking time getting stuff ready for when the kid is born.
You do not like it, to damn bad. And yes I know, it is a short chapter.
