Bernie came out of theatre and wandered over to the nurses' station to check on the ward after her stint in theatre. She offered a tired smile to Fletch, "How are things ticking over Fletch?"
"All fine and dandy here Ms Wolfe. You have a visitor in your office."
"A visitor?" Bernie asks with curiosity.
"Mr Hanssen."
"Hanssen eh." She tilts her head, "Better not keep him waiting.
She makes her way over to the office remembering that it would be a mess because Serena was not around to keep her in check housekeeping wise. Hanssen would be sitting in mild disgust she imagined. She entered the office and saw that Hanssen was sitting in Serena's chair, that being the tidier side of the office.
"Ah Ms Wolfe. Sorry to descend upon you uninvited. I wanted to catch you to see how things are." He indicated for Bernie to take a seat, it seemed he wanted a conversation. "So how are things?"
"Ah,um, well…"
There was a small silence.
"I'm sorry Ms Wolfe I've put you on the spot somewhat." He shrugged, "Obviously I know it not an easy time for yourself or Ms Campbell, if there is anything I can do to help, my door is always open… to you both."
He stood to take his leave, "Would you please pass my regards to Ms Campbell and ensure she knows that support is here should she need it. I was going to send flowers but it seems you are inundated already." He gestures to the vases spotted around the room.
"Thank you Mr Hanssen I shall pass on your regards to Serena."
"Thank you Ms Wolfe. Would you allow me to make an observation?"
"By all means." Bernie was curious as to what he may say now.
"In times of trouble you discover who really matters; those who are there for you. In your suffering you do not wish to put upon those closest to you. Serena is very lucky to have you Ms Wolfe, she may not vocalise this but deep down she will be eternally grateful to you."
Bernie nodded in agreement. Serena did often push her away, but she would always be there.
Hanssen had his hand on the door handle, "Remember, my door is always open to you both." With that he left.
Bernie sat in her chair, much like herself Hanssen was more of an observer than a talker, so for him to come down and talk to her must have been important to him. She figured he must think a lot of Serena.
