A/N: Hey guys so this fanfic is inspired by Castle bring Beckett coffee at the end of 8x04. I do not own Castle or any of the characters.

There were a lot of things about their relationship that were special especially for them. In their case, it was building theories together, solving murders, finishing each other sentences, the word always, and coffee. Ever since they had started working together, he had always brought her a cup of coffee. Sometimes on rare occasions, she brought him coffee. It was their way of saying I love you and asking how the other was. These were the things she loved about their relationship. She was still shocked when she found him perched on a desk with two coffees in his hands. He hadn't brought her coffee since she had left. She missed it.

"Castle?"

Castle doesn't say a word but instead hands her a coffee with a foam heart.

"Relax this doesn't mean anything. It's just a little congratulatory coffee after solving a tough case."

"Wow I can never make it like you even though you taught me how."

"That's because I lied. There's a special ingredient I keep a secret."

"Really what is it?"

"Well now if I told you that, you might not need me anymore.

"Then don't tell me and since we're being honest there's something I have to tell you."

Castle looks at her intrigued.

"I hated Moffet's book."

"What? Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because you gave it to me when we first started dating and I knew it was important to you so I lied."

Castle couldn't help but laugh at the memory and the fact that she did that for him. The moment was soon interrupted by the ringing of Beckett's phone.

"I'm sorry. I have to get this."

"Okay," said Castle placing his coffee on the desk.

"Have a good night."

"You too."

With that, Castle left the precinct and Beckett answered her phone.

"Vikram hey. Did you get the test results on the heroin from the Vulcan Simmon's case? Good now we can get to work."

Few hours later

Castle returned to the loft a few hours after his talk with Beckett. He had mainly been driving around trying to clear his head before finally going to the office. He hadn't even been planning on going back to the loft. He had been at the P.I office finishing up some last minute details on his latest cases when Martha walked in.

1 hour earlier

Castle had been finalizing some details on his latest cases and was about to get ready to spend another night on the couch when Martha walked in.

"Hey kiddo."

"Mother what are you doing here?"

"Alexis told me you've been sleeping here instead of at the loft."

"I've just been working on these cases that's all."

Martha gave her son a knowing look.

"I haven't been sleeping at the loft because Beckett's not there. It just doesn't feel right to sleep in our bed without her beside me."

"I know kiddo. Look how about you just come home and clear your head okay?"

"Okay. Thanks mother."

"Anytime kiddo," said Martha as she gave him a hug.

Castle had reached the front door of the loft when he noticed a coffee cup sitting in front of it. It was like it had been waiting for him. He picked it up and read the blue sticky note on top. It said: "I'll always need you. Love, Kate."

This wasn't her apologizing or saying she was coming back, but it was something. It was a peace offering and that was a start. They were getting there just like always.
