PROLOGUE:
The land of Equestria was not always the land of happiness and the light. There was a time period were the realm of ponies was plagued by creatures of the dark. These creatures were a fourth kind of pony; a species was fairly different from the familiar ones that inhabit the world today. Although these ponies had the ability to disguise themselves as any kind of pony present, their true forms were of a species that feasted on pony blood everytime they had a chance to strike. This species of pony were referred to as vampires. Although their power was greater than other ponies, they could not stand the sunlight for it would turn them into ashes if exposed long enough. This was a reason why they would only come out at night and stalk other ponies in various parts of the country. At times they would lure young fillies to their own chambers to promise them a romantic evening, only to find themselves turned into creatures of the night once they've been bitten. Although attempts in dealing with the dark ponies have been attempted, not many have been successful in subduing the creatures, for they were a lot stronger and magically efficient to counter anypony's attempts of defeating them. It wasn't until Princess Luna, monarch of the night, found a solution to deal with them. Along with her sister, Princess Celestia, they designed especial weapons using the power of the sun derived by the alabaster monarch. Since said weapons were meant to be used by magic to enhance them in battle, only unicorn ponies were chosen to be trained as vampire hunters. Other species of ponies also joined, although their weapon usage would not be as prominent as with the magic enhanced ones. One of Luna's best warriors, Dawn Starlight, was chosen to strike at the heart of the vampire infestation: the castle of Count Bloodstone, said to be the beginning of the vampire reign. While the princesses and the rest of the vampire hunters were dealing with the rest of the vampires in various points in Equestria, Dawn Starlight ventured to the count's castle to confront him herself. The last battle with the count was long and difficult. While she had the power of the day on her side, she realized the count was no mere vampire unlike others she had to deal with. In end, she managed to strike a fatal blow to the dark pony, and defeated him. However, her battle proved to be too much to her and suffered severe wounds in her body. She returned to the Everfree castle to tell the pony monarchs of her victory, only to fall down to the floor due to her injuries. Dawn Starlight eventually survived her encounter with Bloodstone, but was in no shape to ever use her powers as vampire hunter again. It was not o a loss, since with the fall of one of the most powerful vampire ponies in the land, others lost their will to stay and confront the rest of the warriors of the day, and fled to another land, away from Equestria never to be seen again. The rest of creatures that were influenced by the vampires also left the land and took refuge in forests far away not to be seen again. Princess Luna granted Dawn Starlight a piece of land so she could live the rest of her days at peace, living off the land and to start a new generation to remember her lineage as vampire hunter. Dawn Starlight accepted the princess' gift and lived in her own home for the rest of her days, starting a family and telling her stories to her children and to anypony who wanted to know about it...
