Badgerpaw raced through the forest ground, only one thought in his mind I am fighting my first battle! I will protect my clan with my heart. He taught of fernshade and wolfstep, of how proud they will be. He didn't see the blow until it was too late.
"Is ShadowClan so weak they sent a kit to battle for them?" a massive brown tabby tom glared at him. Sneering. "You're nothing more than a kit!"
Badgerpaw twisted left and right and clawed at the tom's exposed belly. He scowled.
"You are irritating me, wimp! Might as well finish you off." The tom bent down and bit Badgerpaw's neck watching as his blood pooled around his fur, staining the grass red.
Badgerpaw lay dying, in pain, in sadness, thinking he let them down. They were counting one me, and I let them down. He could see blurry shapes now, closer, closer they came and he could make out cats… with stars in their fur.
"Badgerpaw…" They seemed to be calling him." Badgerpaw… your time is up."
Starclan… They were coming for him. He could see Hollyflower, his mother's mother. Her pelt sleek and shining. With her were Poolcloud and Toadskip, his father's parents. And there was Flintfang, his mentor… wait, Flintfang?
"Badgerpaw! Wake up; we'll get you to Yellowfang! She will heal you." Flintfang said, his words rushed, and his breath came in ragged gasps.
"No. It is my time. I only wish I could have fought harder, actually defeated someone!" The small tom's voice came in a squeak." I have disappointed you."
"No, Badgerpaw, you haven't you fought like a true warrior, you…"
"Do you mean… Do you mean I made you proud?"
"Yes. You are a true warrior."
"Then.. Then can I have my warrior name? Can it be Badgerfang? I want it to honor you. To tell you how much you were a great warrior, and a mentor."
"Alright… Badgerfang"
Badgerfang signed and closed his eyes, never to open them again, with a devastated Flintfang who vowed never to train a kit again.
