A/N: Hello, LOTR fanfiction readers!
This is one of the many connections I think there are between The Hobbit and LOTR. I hope you at least like it :) People think I'm wrong about these ideas so I'm prepared for those naysayers, but do review! :3

The beautiful sunlight on the water was comforting to Sam and the small breeze felt like home. Elanor had seen him weeks ago and she most likely knew of his whereabouts as there was always talk of him, the last of the ring bearers. Sam hoped that if and when she ever found out or if she even wanted to think about this possibility, she, like her mother, would understand his decision. He smiled softly at the thought of his first born little girl all grown up and continuing the tradition of the Red Book of Westmarch with her own family. He looked out toward the setting sun and sighed contently. Soon he'll be there in the Undying Lands, reunited with Frodo.
One hundred two years in Middle-earth should have been a satisfying long life, but to Sam, it didn't feel nearly long enough. He should have lived out the rest of his days in the Shire in Bag End, and he'd still be living there if Rosie hadn't... He'd loved her with all his heart. She had been his life, given him beautiful and perfect children, and had been there for him through all seven Mayor elections. After she passed, the days had turned in to weeks and weeks had turned into months and he realized he couldn't go on without her.
He didn't tell anyone of his decision, not even his children. He didn't want them to mourn for him so soon after losing their mother. Besides, they had their own lives ahead of them.
Yes, he's lived a long life. Now, it's his children's turn to live in lands that have been ridden of evil. His children will be safe in the fourth age of Middle-earth he helped make possible. His beautiful Primrose and Daisy. His witty Frodo and Merry and Pippin. His darling Robin and Ruby and Rose. His stern Hamfast and Bilbo. His fair Elanor and Goldilocks and his little Tom. He and Rosie, mainly Rosie, raised them well, so leaving them behind to go on another and permanent adventure didn't hurt as much as he had imagined it to.
Sam recalled the tales of Bilbo's adventures and smiled, even chuckled. So, he thought, as the story goes, it began one hundred forty-one years ago when Bilbo set out on his adventure with thirteen dwarves on a quest to reclaim a homeland, and now it will end with his thirteen children steadying their homeland of Middle-earth.
