Sloan's First Word
"This should be fun." Jackie told Nick as they begun buckling the kids into their car seats.
"Yeah, it should." Nick agreed.
The family was on their way to a barbecue at the Russell's house, once a month the graveyard CSI shift team members took turns having a get together at their house and this month it was the Russell's turn to host.
"Damn hon, I'm sorry, I forgot my wallet, I'll be right back." Nick told Jackie as he finished buckling Sloan into his car seat.
Eventually the family got to the barbecue.
"Alright, it's my turn to hold the little one." Barbara said as she held out her hands so she'd be handed Sloan.
Sloan had been passed around to everyone, eating up all the attention.
"Damn." The baby said suddenly with an adorable grin.
Everyone in the room spun around, Nick and Jackie's eyes widened in humiliation.
"Did he just say what I think he said?" Barbara asked as she struggled mightily not to laugh.
"Yeah, and that was his first word." Jackie mumbled.
Everyone burst out laughing except for Nick and Jackie, neither knew what to do.
Sloan grinned adorably, thinking he was very clever, learning how to talk, or in this case curse.
"Damn, damn, damn." He babbled before bursting into a fit of giggles.
"Shhhh, buddy, no no." Nick said as he took the baby from Barbara's lap and gently covered his mouth.
"It's Nick's fault." Jackie finally said, managing a grin.
Nick gave Jackie a look that said Thanks for throwing me under the bus dear.
"So uh, Nicky, he learned that from you, some role model." Russell told Nick with a grin.
Russell knew Nick was an exceptional father, he was just giving him a hard time.
A while later when the ruckus had wound down Nick took Sloan into the bathroom to change his diaper.
"Nice going little buddy, cussing at my boss's wife is a good way to get daddy fired." Nick told the baby with a grin.
Sloan just stared contently up at him, Nick couldn't help but smile, the baby's sweet little face was so adorable and innocent.
Nick leaned over and blew a raspberry on the baby's stomach, making him squeal in delight.
Nick laughed and did it again, again the baby squealed happily.
"Alright kiddo, we better go rejoin the party." Nick told him as he finished changing the baby's diaper.
As Nick picked the baby up so they could go rejoin everyone he looked at his baby and smiled and shook his head. His children never failed to be entertaining.
The End
