A/N I got this idea from many similar stories that came before it, all in other fandoms. And that got me thinking: why doesn't The 4400 have one? If there is one, I'm sorry, I didn't see it. And I just thought this fandom needs a little more comic relief. It'll start with season one, and go progressively up, with a few invented incidents along the way. I know this chapter covers all of season one, but the other chapters won't be an entire season. Season one is short.
One final note: the plot won't make much sense, so don't complain about that. Maybe putting a list of random rules online would be a little out-of-character for anyone, but I don't honestly care, it's for humor, nothing else. The end point of this rant being: don't take this too seriously.
The day after Orson Bailey had been taken in, Tom's ears had stopped ringing, but he was still sore. Diana was probably not feeling much better, because she seemed a little grouchy, too. Or maybe that was just how she always was. And still they had no idea who (or what) the 4400 were.
As a result, Tom was in a very bad mood by the time he got to checking his email. And what he found there did not cheer him up at all.
The address was unfamiliar, and the subject was empty. Check this, said the text, followed by a link. Curious, he clicked on it, and was annoyed as nothing happened at first. After a long pause, while he cursed his computer (out loud, much to Diana's obvious annoyance) a new window opened. This screen had one sentence written at the top.
Don't approach unstable telekenetics.
Tom glared at the screen. "Hey!" he exclaimed, without thinking.
Diana looked up. "Oh, you got it too?" she asked mildly. He nodded and started to close the window, before a message box appeared. This page has updated information, it informed him. Refresh?
He hit 'Okay' automatically, before stopping to wonder if he really wanted to know. The next line took him by surprise.
At least, not until their backs are turned.
With a grin and raised eyebrows, the window was closed. Then Tom noticed a new message in his inbox, from Diana. It contained almost exactly the same link. Almost.
He glanced over at her, and saw she was grinning. "Now you can edit it," she explained.
Tom grinned back.
Dennis Ryland was thinking about three different things when he opened the email, two when he clicked on the link, and four while he waited for it to load. To his surprise, however, he found the three short sentences in the site cleared his mind entirely. He stopped and reread the third.
Psychics?
He rolled his eyes, closed the window, and went about his day.
Quite a while later, focused on the emerging case of the 4400 vigilante, he accidentally opened the email another time. If he had been paying attention, he would have noticed that he'd already seen this link and not clicked another time. And then, he might never have seen the next entry.
Okay, she's psychic, never mind.
He grinned, and added the website to his favorites.
It was with considerable relief at the end of her day that Diana checked the mysterious website. The witty bits of commentary on her job were surprisingly refreshing. And there she found a new entry.
When confronted with a serial killer, it is unwise to later comment to your partener that their smiles look alike.
She winced a little bit. That one was definitly Tom. And so maybe that hadn't been the most tactful observation, but she's been tired! And it was true. Grumbling to herself, Diana typed.
It's not my fault you look like a psychopath.
