Haunted - Alternative Last Scene
Disclaimer: I do not own anything - the characters are solely the property of ER.
This is my very short alternative take on the last scene of Haunted and how I wished it went! The scene is set to "Go" by Sparklehorse by as played in the last scene.
"See you soon."
So you think you've found the one.
Neela stood there and listened to footsteps walking away and the door closing behind her; sounds which confirmed that she had yet again let Ray walk out of her life. She couldn't move and was filled with an overwhelming sense of emptiness from Ray's tender kiss and goodbye words.
And she knows just how you feel.
Everything said in that evening between them was reverberating around her head. She starts to shake her head tentatively at first, then more decisively.
So I think that you should go.
She decides she cannot let Ray walk out of her life again. She stays rooted to the spot for just a moment then suddenly turns around and opens the door of her apartment then runs away from the emptiness of her surroundings. Please God, he can't have gone yet. I just have to get to him before he leaves.
Go on ahead.
Running. Running faster than she's ever run before. She finally gets outside and sees him just about to get in the car. She comes towards him and he suddenly notices her; his face full of surprise as she approaches him.
Take her in your arms and be wed.
His breath is taken away by the multitude of emotions contained in that petite face of hers. "Neela" is all he can muster in a whispered, croaky tone. He swallows and can do nothing but stand there as she moves ever closer. Suddenly she stops and he gets to survey her face. He can see tears and anguish etched on her face – the face of a desperate woman. They stand staring at each other for an eternity it seems. Then the desperation spills over and Neela does the only thing at that moment which can put her out of her misery; their misery. She rushes to him in one swift movement and reaches up to take his face in her hands to pull his lips down to hers.
And go go go go go
You restless souls you're gonna find it.
She kisses him with every fibre of her being and in a way that she's never kissed anyone before. He responds and matches her intensity with his own and brings into her all the years of anguish, desperation and longing.
Go go go go go
They suddenly break away for a second to look at each other and bask in the wonder of the moment; the wonderment and joy visible for all to see. Ray smiles and looks into Neela's eyes realising that this is real and not just a dream. Neela smiles back through her tears that have now turned from anguish to pure joy. This was their time now and they were both ready. Ray reaches down this time and brings Neela's lips to his and they carry on kissing into the Chicago night, without a care in the world, except for each other.
You restless souls you're gonna find it.
Oh yes you did you found it.
