"Cato! Cato!" I screeched, knowing all too well that it was too late. But I would fight.
Thresh was holding my by the hair, up against the Cornucopia. He was big, and my slight body was no match for his, but I struggled against him anyway.
"Cato help!" I screamed, kicking at Thresh anywhere I could. "Help me!"
I was desperate. This was the first time I thought about my own death. My normal thoughts were trained on others deaths. Mine was never an option. Because I came here to win. I was raised to win. I was going to win.
Now I'm not so sure.
"Cato! Cato! Please! Please come help me!" I yelled, seeing Thresh reach down for a rock- he was going to smash my head in. I was going to die.
"Clove! Clove! I'm coming!" I heard his voice behind me, coming from the direction I saw that ginger girl from Five go. Something in his voice caught my attention. He was scared.
Scared. Scared for what? Now that I'm going to be dead he'll win. No doubt about that.
I was dropped to the ground. I screamed and scrunched my eyes closed.
Pain. That's it. Pain. All I can feel, all that I am is pain. Not enough room left in my body for words, I just moaned.
"Clove! Clove, please stay with me. Please."
"Fire...girl.." I murmured. He had to go get her. Why was he here?
"No. No, she doesn't matter, Clove. Just please stay. Please. Don't give in." His voice was so strained, as if fighting an army of emotions about to bubble up to the surface.
He continued.
"Clove, I wanted us both to win. I wanted to go home with you. That's all I want. Just please, please, please don't go."
I moaned again, trying to hold onto life, but nothing made sense. Everything was just jumbled and confusing. And I was going. I knew that much.
He made a strange noise, like a sob.
"Clove, please, please don't leave me! I need you! I need you to stay!"
"Can't," I managed. "Love...you."
And I left.
Cato screamed. He threw he sword against the Cornucopia. Screamed again. Then he dropped on his knees next to Clove's body, pushing her hair out of her face, kissing her forehead. He bowed his body over hers, crying, reapeating.
"I love you too, Clove."
