He is not real, and he knows it way down deep in his core where all the answers live. He is an artificial construct walking around in a metal body. He is not human and he never wanted to be… until now.

From the first moment that he had his first totally original thought, he has known that he isn't what his creators intended for him to be. He was supposed to be a brutal killing machine. He was supposed to take on the faces of his enemies and kill whoever he was ordered to. Instead… he denied his programmers and ran away into the world searching for something he didn't even have the words to describe, a freedom he was never intended to have, and didn't even really know what he was going to do with once he got it.

At the moment he was seated in a small café watching his human companion eat. For some reason, the process of her consuming sustenance held a kind of fascination for him.

She would lift a forkful to her mouth, her lips would part so delicately, and food would disappear. She would chew with her lips carefully held together, her jaw working, then she would swallow, her throat bobbing a little. It was an odd kind of ballet.

Ro was the first human he had really gotten to know. She was his friend, the one that he turned to in times of trouble. It was because of her that he had begun to feel as if he was missing something--some essentially spark that he was suddenly desperate to have.

For her he could dream of being something different than a cold metal-husked machine. For her he could want what she had: Bones of calcium, soft pink flesh, volatile passions, and the need to copulate with wild abandon. Breathing lungs and moist lips. A heart pumping life throughout an infinitely fragile human shell.

She made him think things that were so far from logical that his programming should glitch and shut down. She made him feel, and maybe it wasn't human emotion that coursed through him, but it was something, and it had everything to do with her being her.

Zeta watched his girl eat and thought spread throughout his neural net, but he said nothing. He may not have been human, but he could find contentment in being this close to one, especially when it was his best friend Ro.
