Marry Me, Juliet

Shawn anxiously watched as Juliet finished her dessert from across the table. They were having lunch on a Saturday afternoon at a place they had only been once before. Most of the seating was outside. The building was shaded grey. They served pretzels, sandwiches, cookies; casual things.

Juliet finished her ice cream, put down her spoon, and looked directly at Shawn. "What's going on, Shawn?" she asked. "What do you mean?" He asked. "You barely ate anything and you have been staring at me since we ordered," Juliet said. Shawn smiled and leaned forward.

"Jules, do you know why I picked out this particular place out of all the restaurants in Santa Barbara?" Shawn asked.

"Um, because they serve nachos as an appetizer?" Juliet offered.

Shawn considered this. "Okay, there are two reasons." Juliet giggled. Shawn glanced around. "We've been here before. Do you remember?"

Juliet looked confused. "No. Should I? Oh, wait, was this the place where you texted Gus a picture of your drink when they brought you one with two umbrellas?"

"Oh god, that was awesome!" Shawn exclaimed. "But no. Last time we were here was before we started dating."

Juliet looked even more confused.

Shawn continued, "We were working on a case. We were planning to go undercover. Chief Vick was a raccoon…"

Juliet's eyes lit up as the realization dawned on her. "Oh, yeah! This was the place where you asked"

Juliet's words died in her throat as the full significance of this place hit her. "Oh my god," she whispered as her hands flew to her mouth trying to hide the giant smile that spread across her face.

Shawn stood up, took her hands, and led her over to the same spot they had stood together five years earlier. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a box made out of Legos. Juliet laughed. "I told you we weren't Lego people. We fit." Shawn said. Juliet smiled at him as her eyes began to water. Shawn opened the box and inside was a ring that was more beautiful than all of the ones Juliet had looked at during her secret ring browsing and then some. This ring was special. When she saw it, she got the strangest feeling that, somehow, it was meant for her. Shawn looked up into Juliet's eyes and said, "Marry me, Juliet."

Juliet had imagined this scenario in her head a million times and the different ways she would say 'yes.' But Shawn hadn't posed the question like she had anticipated. Of course he didn't, he was Shawn. Caught off guard, but in the best way imaginable, all she could manage to get out was, "O-Okay." And when the crowd around them started clapping, just like they had five years ago, Shawn, in typical Shawn fashion, loudly proclaimed, "She loves me so much!" And this time, it was true.
