Intro

Hey everyone! This is the first chapter of Helena's Revenge. If it isn't satisfactory please realize this is my first fic. I revised this and the second chapter just a little bit to fit the changes I made in the story. They're not much, but they help. Enjoy.

"Bravo! Bravo!" Several voices called over the deafening applause. Helena Douglas smiled modestly. She placed one foot in front of the other and gave a low bow, her white dress floating around her in the motion. She looked back towards her mother and held her hand out, gesturing for her mother to come take a bow. Her mother stepped forward into the spot light, and the audience applauded even louder. Helena's mother bowed, then turned toward her daughter and gave her a bone-crunching hug.

"You were wonderful, darling," Marie Douglas said softly, kissing Helena's cheek. Helena's blue eyes sparkled as her smile widened at the compliment. "Wonderful."

"Encore! Encore!" The audience demanded. Marie applauded with them, urging her daughter to sing again. Helena laughed slightly and nodded

The house lights dimmed and the audience grew hushed. Helena took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and after a short pause began to sing. She went into the dream world she always entered when she sang although she could sill hold the audience captive in this world. As she came to the most powerful part of the song she heard a loud noise, like a pop, and her eyes snapped open instantly.

Something had lodged itself just a few inches from her feet. Still dazed from coming back to reality so suddenly, Helena simply stared at the object with a frown.

"HELENA!" Marie screamed, as she ran towards her only daughter, pushing her down. Helena fell onto the hard marble stage with a grunt and looked up at her mother in shock.

The loud noise sounded again, and Marie began to fall back slowly. Her blood fell across Helena's dress and face, and suddenly Helena came to reality. She screamed in horror and caught her mother before she could hit the ground, causing the audience to erupt into their own screams. "Up there," A woman yelled. "Someone's shooting from up there!"

Two guards raced up to the balcony at the left of the stage. Helena's gaze followed the direction they were heading and noticed a shadowy figure on the balcony move quickly. Two short screams cut through the air, and two bodies were thrown off the balcony. They landed on the stage with sickening thuds, causing Helena to turn her face away in disgust. She closed her eyes with a small whimper, tears forming behind her eyelids.

"H-Helena," Came Marie's voice. Helena opened her eyes and looked into her mother's face. Marie touched a blood stained hand to her daughter's cheek and smiled weakly.

"Hold on, Mother, you'll be alright." Helena said desperately, her eyes clouding with tears.

"I'm going to your father," Marie said softly. "We'll both watch over you from heaven now." She gave a weak smile and caressed her daughter's face. "My little girl, so beautiful." Marie leaned her head back with a sigh and closed her eyes. Slowly, her hand went limp and fell from Helena's cheek.

Helena bowed her head and her body shook as she choked back her sobs. "I won't cry, Mother, I'll be strong. For your and Father's sake." She stood up on shaky legs and looked towards the now empty balcony.  "And for mine."
