Moonlight hit the gathering place as cats gathered in the cold leaf-bare season. The wind blew snow and frost over the bodies of hundreds, no thousands, of cats that gathered that moonhigh. Each passing moment made cats grow colder and colder with each passing wind. The snow landed on their fur as they sat and listened to the leaders that were discussing their clans.

"Swanstar," a brown tabby was speaking to a white cat, "If Riverclan comes on WindClan territory again, we will rip your pelts off and feed them to the foxes."

The white leader stepped towards this brown tabby. Swanstar's blue eyes glared at the cat that accused RiverClan of being on another clans territory. She was named for her swan-like fur and her golden amber eyes, not for being kind. Her warrior name had been Swanstrike. This leader, although down to seven lives, would still fight for her clan no matter what the cost was. Swanstar straighten herself up and stopped glaring as she spoke.

"Treestar," she said to the brown tabby, "If RiverClan was on your territory, it was chasing your pathetic cats off of our territory into yours. We don't want to steal food from weaklings. It would be taking advantage of the weak. Now. If you don't mind, I would like to end this kittypet-type fight and go on with our lives."

She could tell Treestar was offended, yet she didn't care. Swanstar had never cared for Treestar and Treestar had never cared for her either. It was a win win if they just never talked. WindClan had a reputation for ruining Gatherings. Since the end of Firestar's time, they had been creating chaos at the Gatherings. Treestar backed away and sat down away from all of the leaders.

"Now," Swanstar said, "I have appointed a new deputy since Reedstar passed onto StarClan. He will be forever remembered in our hearts. Our new deputy is Bluevelvet. She has agreed and so has StarClan. She will help make our clan greater."

Bluevelvet, late for the gathering, was running at this point. She hoped that her leader hadn't noticed yet that she was missing.

Great way to start as deputy, she hissed to herself, Swanstar is gonna kill you.

Bluevelvet leaped over the obstacles that stood in her way and was focused on getting there. It was important that it wasn't too late. She was only a few moon shifts late. Her cream colored paws softly touched over the ground. She was ready to burst into tears as she reached the Gathering point. She came as soon as Swanstar announced that she was deputy. All of RiverClan was looking and whispering for her to join her leader. Padding through the group of ThunderClan cats, Bluevelvet's tortie point face stood out of the crowd. Her mainly black mask was mixed in with the grays and reds of ThunderClan. Her blue eyes turned from side to side as they met with the greens and ambers of theirs. The red and white markings in the black that brought her blue eyes out made her look regal compared to the ThunderClanners. She padded slowly towards her leader and the others.

"Thank you for that introduction Swanstar," Bluevelvet's voice rang out, "I am blessed to be RiverClan's deputy."

Her leader looked down at the deputy with her blue eyes glowing with anger and deputy padded up to her leader and she bowed.

She is going to kill me later. I just know it.
