This is a new story. here is the first chapter. Hope you like it. I was inspired by a movie that i recently saw. please enjoy
It started like every other day. He woke up and drove to the old Spanish building where he considered second home for the past eight years. Everything looked the same as the first time he walked in the so called Mission. But he knew. Something was missing. Or to be more honest, someone. It has been more than two years that they failed and she left. He moved on. She moved on. But that empty feeling in the corner of his heart, still hurt when he was thinking of her. He always thought that if they ever fall apart, he would be the one to run away. But that time came and she was the one to leave. The one that never looked back. The one that abandoned the family they had created and never looked back. His new partner was hopefully nothing like her. Hopefully, because he was a man. James Stone, 25 fresh out of the academy. They were a four-man team and when a woman was needed, Mrs. Beale, formerly known as Ms Jones, was happy to join them on field, letting her husband worrying out of his mind and sitting up in OPS all alone.
Everything was different. He was different. But why did he have that strange feeling today? Why watching his more than a year partner sitting on her desk was like twisting a knife in old wounds?
- "Morning Deeks. So nice of you to join us," Sam said in a mocking tone.
- "Morning."
- "Are you ok?" he asked concerned. "You look a little pale there. Late night?" he smirked.
- "No."
- "No?"
- "Just tired. I think I am taking some days off."
- "Hold that thought. You need to check on a lead from the last case," Eric appeared at the top of the stairs. "Address on your phones."
It all started with a MMA gym. That's where he met her. That's where he first laid eyes on her. Where his breath caught for the first of the many times he saw her approaching with wavy hair and dark, mysterious eyes. Since then many things changed. They became partners. They became friends. Best friends. Inseparated. Then lovers and finally strangers. But despite the mistakes and everything that left unsaid, every time he passed a gym, every time he entered the NCIS building, every time he passed places they used to go together, every single time he drove by her old house and saw the happy couple with their little girl, that moved there after she left her apartment, he was feeling her unique, sweet scent embracing him. Almost suffocating him. And today was no exception. They arrived just in time to watch the fire department entering the building to save the people who were inside when the bomb went off and set the MMA gym on fire. Minutes passed to get all the civilians out and make them get checked by the paramedics, when the unmistakable scent of her overwhelmed him. Not only that, but also those strange feelings wouldn't let him at ease. And in that moment, he couldn't be surer that her voice was pleading him desperately to save her. He couldn't be wrong when from the broken window that was now kissed by red and orange flames; her voice was heard, asking for help. It was her voice. And why those damn firefighters stopped getting people out of that building that was ready to go down? They said it was clear. That everyone was safe. But those desperate pleadings were so clear in his head. No. he couldn't let her die. He hadn't seen her in 2 years. And fate brought them together again for some strange reason. He couldn't let that opportunity slip away from his hands. Those were his last thoughts before he started running at the gym's direction with her name on his lips. Kensi.
He was just inside the building when strong arms grabbed him and dragged him outside, despite his protests. He started coufhing violently not able to hide his nager for the senior agent.
- "Are you crazy Deeks? What's gotten into your mind?" he kept holding him tightly as he felt him trying to escape and get back to the almost collapsed building.
- "Let me go Sam. Let me go."
- "What's wrong with you?"
- "I have to save her."
- "Deeks! The building is empty."
- "No. I have to save her. I need to save her."
- "Calm down, nobody is in there."
- "She is…Please…Please Sam. Let me save her."
- "Deeks. Focus. All the people are safe."
- "Cant you hear her? She is asking for our help Sam."
- "Who?"
- "Kensi."
- "Oh my God. Are you for real? I cant hear a thing. She is not in there. Now lets go let them do their job so we can do ours next," he said. His words seemed to calm the detective who obliged his requests with his head down like a grounded child.
- "I lost my mind."
- "Not yet. But, indeed, you need to take some days off."
- "I will."
- "Should I call Natasha? Is she home or at the hospital?"
- "No no. It's ok. I am ok. Don't disturb her."
- "Deeks. Kensi is gone. I thought you moved on and now you are hearing voices and jeopardizing your job?"
- "No. It's just… You know… This gym brought back memories. I suppose. But I'm gonna be ok."
- "I hope so. Come on. Lets get checked that burned hand of yours."
They wrapped the case rather quickly, giving him the opportunity to gather his things, have a small meeting with Hetty amd head home. These few days would probably give him the calmness and relaxation he was looking for. Fate though had other plans. Entering the house and in search of Monty. He found him lying on the soft ground of his backyard. But it cant be. He wasn't alnone. There, with her back turned on him, was standing the woman he haven't seen for what seemed like ages. Her dark hair wavy and shorter than usual. She was wearing a dress. She never wore dresses, he thought. But that long white one was just perfect onn her. No no. she was perfect in it. She didn't appear to acknowledge his presence. She was just standing there, her hand caressing Monty's head. She seemed carefree and young.
- "Ke…Kensi," he managed to say.
- "Hi" she smiled and it was like his whole world lit up.
- "What…I mean, how did you get in here?"
- "Old habits die hard," she smiled shyly.
- 'You picked the lock, didn't you?" he asked in amusement and she just shrugged making that cute face that he secretly still loved and missed so much.
- "You lost weight?"
- "Yes… I mean no. I am fine. I mean I;m good," he stopped babbling and stared at her with admiration as he heard her amazing laugh.
- "These jeans were not baggy once."
- "Many things have changed since then."
- "Yes they did," she whisperd.
- "Monty missed you. You were spoiling him. I had to put him in rehab," he failed to joke.
- "I missed him too."
- "Why are you here Kensi?" he asked after minute of silence.
- "You know…" she smiled nervously, looking anywhere but at his direction.
- "No I don't. why are you here?"
- "Are you sure you don't?"
- "These games again? What does that even mean?" he raised his voice, anger starting building in him.
- "I just think that you wanted me to come. You needed me to come today. And I felt it. I sensed it and I came."
- "Really?" he asked as it was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard.
- "What? Would you prefer me to tell you that I was just in the neighborhood?" she smiled.
- "Wanna come in?" he asked.
- "Do you want me to?" she asked, uncertainty clear in her voice.
- "I had a bad day," he said and it was like answering her question with just a simple word.
- "Tough case?"
- "You have no idea."
- "Lead the way," she said and followed him inside the house that brought back memories long forgotten
