He had always hated rain.
The lone figure standing on the hillside always had. And he probably always would.
A storm was something that he had always enjoyed as a child. In the few times he had seen his father lightning-bend sheer demonstrations of power, his admiration of him had swelled to epic proportions. But the rain that came with the storms…
No. No, that could not be something that he could ever like or love.
Rain was a way of washing away the blood and memories of those who had been lost to time. Washing away the memories of those who had been precious to you into the untraceable depths of the ocean.
Into darkness, into nothing. Into a lack of existence and meaning that every human ultimately feared.
And here his idol and mentor had just fallen into the same summit of despair that he had feared for so very long.
Sure, he had had a strong title and had been the pride of his people… but for what? Only for him to throw it all away for some stupid brat that had spoken out of line… to become banished along with him and fight for that stupid brat who had never shown any true potential…
For a stupid brat that had never fully appreciated him until he was long gone.
There was no power crackling along the sky now. Nothing but a dreary and blue-black sky that refused to instill any feelings other than sorrow.
ONCE THE PRIDE OF HIS NATION AND REDUCED TO TRAITOR
HERE LIES…
He couldn't finish it. Those arrogant two-faced… Hands aglow for a brief moment as his fingers touched the rough stone, eyes still wide in disbelief of death, the golden eyes once again faced the tombstone before him.
THE TRUE FIRELORD
HONORED FATHER AND DRAGON OF THE WEST
His uncle… now lay as nothing more than a part of the world that he had so desperately sought to save and heal.
It doesn't take much to be a father, but it does take a lot to be a dad…
Hand over his heavy heart in a traditional salute one would give a general in life, rain continued to fall about the lone figure on the hillside.
"Goodbye…Dad…"
He had always hated the rain. He probably always would.

My lame tribute to those who have died or received injury recently in the shootings at Northern University, including some very close friends of mine. Darker than what I usually write, but I had to write this to keep some of my mental sanity.
My best wishes to all affected by this tragedy, as well as the Virginia Tech incident and all other heartbreaking events.
