A knock on Grissom's new apartment door made him jump as he looked at his mail by his kitchen island. He had moved in a few weeks after hearing that I had slept with Nick.
He walked to the front door opening it seeing Brass in his work clothes.
"Hey."
"Hello."
Grissom let him in closing the door.
"What brings you here?"
"You have any coffee?" He asked
"I'll make some." Grissom said, going to the kitchen. Brass leaned on the island watching him make it.
"I came because we need to talk."
Grissom turned after turning the coffee maker on looking at him.
"What's up?"
"I thought you would like to know about Sara."
"What about her?" Grissom asked, alert to the fact that something might have happened to me.
Brass sighed looking down.
"Sara…..she's strong, but…..now with this separation business….it's really gotten to her."
Grissom leaned back against the counter looking at him. He felt a twinge of concern course through his body as he listened to him.
"She's not the person she was. She is pale and very thin. I know she has not been eating or sleeping."
Grissom sighed looking down.
"Gil, I don't want to interfere, but Catherine and I are very worried about her. She suggested to ask you to help out."
"She's really that bad?"
"Very." Brass said, looking at him.
Grissom got some cups pouring the coffee out in them. Brass took the cup his friend offered then he sipped his looking down.
"I don't know what to do." He said
"You can forgive her." Brass said
"It's not that easy."
Brass set his cup down looking at him.
"What about Lady Heather?"
Grissom looked at him winching at the name.
"What about her?"
"You saw her and even stayed at her place a few nights while you were beginning to notice Sara."
"There is a difference. I was not sleeping with Heather."
"I don't care what it was. The point is you chose to pursue this relationship never telling Sara."
Grissom put his cup in the sink not thirsty any more. He turned looking at his friend.
"I will talk to her."
"Thank you."
The next shift I looked at the doughnuts in an open box on the table in the break room. My stomach ached for food as I walked out stopping seeing Grissom standing in the hallway looking at me. My heart fluttered as I stared at him feeling his eyes looking me over.
Grissom's heart went out to me as he saw me come out of the break room. He'd never seen me so thin looking. I had a grayish tint to my skin and very dark circles under my eyes.
I ran a shaking hand through my messed hair as he walked over.
"Hello Sara." He said
"Hello." I said
He looked at my hand going through my hair.
"Working?" He asked
"I…am on break." I said
"Good, I can take you to get something to eat."
I shook looking at him.
"Eat?"
"Yes."
"No." I said
"Why not?"
"Because we are separated that's why! I have not seen you in a month!"
He reached over touching my hand.
"Sara, I understand what your saying, but I am here now and I want to take you out to eat."
I made him let me go then I ran past him. Grissom watched me run off leaving him to cry in an empty room. I slid down the wall holding myself. The door opened slowly and shut. I wiped the tears from my face sensing him sitting down beside me.
His arm slowly went over my shoulders then he pulled me against his chest. I felt his warm body as I clutched his shirt trying to take as much warmth as I could into mine. He put his hand on my head.
"Sara, when Brass told me about you I didn't think you were this bad."
I moved looking at him.
"Brass told you?"
"He was very worried about you."
I slowly put my head back onto his chest.
"Why don't you eat something and then go home to sleep?"
"I have to work." I said "This case is important."
"Catherine can find someone to help you."
I raised my head glaring at him. He let me go searching my angry eyes.
"This is my case!"
"Sara, I was only suggesting…."
I stood looking down at him.
"No one can do my case!"
"Sara…." He said, standing.
"Leave me alone!" I said, leaving the room.
Catherine walked with Grissom looking for me fifteen minutes later. They entered trace seeing me standing by a table talking to the lab technician.
"Sara, can I see you?" She asked
I looked at her then at Grissom standing at the doorway.
"Why?!"
"It is important."
Catherine stared me down watching as I slumped my shoulders looking down. I walked past her looking at Grissom as I went out into the hallway. Catherine opened her door allowing Grissom and I inside then she closed the door. Grissom stood near me as Catherine motioned me to sit down. I sat down slowly as Grissom sat near me in a chair.
"Sara, everyone is very worried about you." Catherine said "You are not giving your usual 100% and I am concerned."
I looked over at Grissom then at her.
"I understand that you are unhappy, but you can't let it destroy you."
"I am trying." I said
She looked at Grissom then at me.
"I have asked Greg to take over your case and I have put you on medical leave for a week."
I stood up angry.
"You can't do that!"
"I already have."
"This is my case!" I shouted
"Not anymore." Catherine said "Go home and rest."
"I hate you! I hate you all!" I shouted, rushing out. Grissom stood looking at Catherine.
"Gil, try to help her or else we could lose her."
He nodded going out. I cried outside as I went to my car. Grissom came out watching me trying to open the door.
"Sara?"
I stopped looking over at him.
"You did this!"
"No, I didn't." He said
I swiped at my tears.
"I was just working a case!"
"Anyone can see you are running on fumes." He said, walking over.
"Leave me alone!"
"I can't." He said
I sobbed holding my face with my hands. Grissom stepped closer wanting to hold me. I shook as I lifted my face looking at him.
"Why are you here?"
"Because I care."
I sniffed looking down.
"Sara, let me take you home."
"No." I said
"Please?"
He reached over touching my cheek causing me to close my eyes. I wanted to keep them closed forever, but as his hand dropped I had to open them. He stepped back clearing his throat.
"I'll go with you if you take me home." I said
"Deal." He said
I went with him to his car. He drove along the street as I looked out the window. He stopped a few times at a light looking at my profile. He parked outside my place helping me out. I was led up the stairs into our house. Grissom looked around once inside as I walked to the living room couch. I heard him walk around going into the kitchen seeing that there was no food anywhere. He came in seeing me lying on my side on the couch.
"Sara, where is the food?"
"I don't have any."
"Why not?
When I didn't answer he walked over sitting on the coffee table putting his hand through my hair. I slowly closed my eyes feeling him continue to touch my hair.
I moved later feeling a blanket over me still on the couch. The food smell in the house made my stomach hurt. I blinked looking around seeing Grissom walking in changed into casual clothes with a bowl of something steaming. He sat on the coffee table looking at me.
"I went out and bought you some food. This is chicken noodle."
He dipped a spoon into it and brought it to my closed mouth.
"Open your mouth." He said
"I'm not hungry." I said
"Open your mouth." He said
Slowly I opened my mouth and he put the spoon in. The hot broth went down my throat giving me a boost. He gave me actual chicken and noodles in the next spoonful. I winched as my stomach ached from lack of food.
He finished feeding me going to the kitchen. He came back in standing looking at me.
"Do you mind if I sit beside you?"
I moved some allowing him to sit at the far end. He sat down looking at the TV then at me. I shook looking at the coffee table putting my arms around my stomach.
"Are you cold?" He asked
"No." I said
"Why are you shaking?"
"I…don't know." I said
He slowly moved climbing behind me putting his body up against mine.
"Better?"
"Yeah." I said
"Sara, I have never seen you like this and it scares me."
I let a tear go down my cheek. Grissom knew he was giving out signals, but at this point he didn't care because it was what I needed. His lips went to my head then he put his head back on the pillow.
Grissom woke the next day feeling me breathing on his neck as I slept. He looked at his watch seeing it was still early. I moved deeper into his neck as he closed his eyes a little turned on by me breathing. He told himself to stop fantasizing and think about what to do next.
He rubbed his head looking up at the white ceiling feeling me moving again.
"Grissom?" I called
"Hmm?"
I opened my eyes looking up at him as he moved to lean over me.
"I'm sorry."
He said nothing as I lowered my gaze to his lips.
"Sara, at this point I don't know what to do."
"You could forgive me." I said
"I would like to, but there is a part of me that is saying no."
"If I promise that will never happen again, then will you?" I asked, looking into his eyes.
"I need more than that."
"What can I do?"
He sighed looking at me.
"You can take care of yourself and give me time to think."
"How long do you need?"
"I don't know."
He got up putting a hand through his hair.
"Sara, if you work at taking care of yourself then we can talk about getting back together."
He watched me a moment.
"I am going home."
He walked away getting his things leaving. I laid back on the couch missing him like before. A few weeks later Grissom walked into CSI looking for Catherine. She smiled at him as he came into her office.
"Gil, I don't know what you did, but Sara is back to her old self. She has gained some weight and looks very healthy now."
"I'm glad." He said, sitting down. "I came to ask you something."
"What is that?"
"I want my old job back."
She stared at him surprised.
"You are the same person that said I will never work here again?"
"I realized that I have been running away from my real calling and that is to be a supervisor."
"I'll put in a good word for you to Ecklie."
"Thanks." He said, chuckling.
Grissom stepped out of Catherine's office seeing me walking around the corner holding a piece of paper. I stopped seeing him then I walked over.
"You're here again?"
"Yes, I had something to talk about with Catherine." He said "You look a lot better."
"Yeah, I decided to take your advice." I said
He nodded walking over putting his hands on my waist. I smiled as he smiled.
"Would you like to be my girlfriend?" He asked
"Are you sure?" I asked
"Very."
"Well I would, but I have a husband." I said
"Oh, that is to bad." He said, letting me go to walk past.
"Hey!" I said, making him turn looking at me. "You know, life is to short to waste. I will be your girlfriend."
He shook his head smiling. I walked over to him looking at his red tie then at him. His eyes were on my lips making me want to kiss him.
"I have to go to a lecture." He said
"Right."
His hand went to my cheek.
"If I kissed you do you think anyone would complain?"
I looked around then at him.
"No one's around."
He leaned forwards kissing me. I put my hands on his back holding the paper still. His arms went around my back. Catherine came out of her office seeing us kissing. She smiled walking past us.
"You know the rules about kissing." She said, walking by. Grissom stopped kissing me looking over at Catherine then at me.
He let me go and walked away leaving me hardly able to stand.
Grissom came back to work after a two week wait. I was excited to have him back even though he kept me at a distance. I stayed on Catherine's team as he got a new set of CSI's. I noticed when I saw him one day he had put his wedding ring on again which meant he was ready to forgive.
We had a busy time full of cases that needed to get done quickly. I hardly saw Grissom except when he was leaving with his team. When it slowed down and I was on standby I went to his new office seeing him sitting doing paperwork at his desk. He didn't look up as I stood at the door. I admired his concentration.
He looked at another paper as I decided to leave.
"Are you going to stand there all night?" He asked, not looking up.
"I didn't think you noticed me." I said, walking in.
He looked at me then down at the paper.
"I always notice you."
I smiled watching him put the paper aside as he sat back in his chair looking at me.
"So, I was going to ask you if…..you wanted to have dinner."
"Wouldn't that confuse things?" He asked
"I don't think so." I said "We are just two people who like food."
He smiled a little.
"Honey, I would like to, but I have a lot to do."
"Okay. By the way, doesn't your calling me honey confuse things?"
"I suppose, but it's a habit I have."
He looked at me as I looked down as I touched his desk.
"I noticed you are wearing your ring again." I said
He lifted his hand up looking at his ring then he looked at me.
"Do you mind if I do?"
"No, I actually like it on you." I said "I thought that you were wanting to wear it because you are ready to forgive me."
He said nothing as I looked at him then I sighed.
"I better go."
He nodded watching me walk back to the door.
I went home seeing something at my front door. It was a box tied with a red bow. I looked around then I lifted it up looking at it. Once inside I laid it on the dining room table. There was nothing that told me where it came from. The bow came undone and I opened the box seeing a smaller box inside. Picking it up I opened it seeing another small box inside. My heart pounded as I slowly opened the box seeing the most beautiful diamond ring ever. I sat down putting my hand over my mouth as I stared at it.
It seemed like hours before I moved. Every little tingle intensified making it hard to ignore. My little voice was telling me to visit Grissom and show him how much I loved the ring, but then I realized that if I did it could wreck everything. I went to bed staring at the new ring on my finger watching as the diamonds twinkled in the light.
I came to work wanting to see Grissom. He was out on a case. I went to work trying not lose focus. When I went on break I saw him standing in the hallway with one of his people. He walked to his office going in. I came in closing the door causing him to turn looking at me.
"Hey." He said
"Hello." I said, locking the door.
"Why are you locking the door?"
"I thought I would thank you."
"For what?"
I walked over lifting my hand for him to see. He took it in his looking at the ring.
"You did get this for me didn't you?"
He looked at me slowly smiling.
"I did."
"Thank you."
He kissed my hand.
"I am glad you like it." He said
I smiled before kissing him. He pulled me back looking at the door then at me.
"You better get back to work."
"Okay." I said, moving.
Grissom watched me go then he went back to work. I went home looking at my ring. Smiling I got out of the car making my way to the steps when I was shoved down onto the side walk. A man in black pounced me as I yelled. I kicked him and he groaned falling to the side. I tried to get my phone only to have him smack it away hitting me in the head hard with something. I faintly felt him grab at me then he ran off.
Grissom pulled up in front of the house seeing Brass and other cops around. He got out walking over to his friend.
"Where is Sara?"
"She's in the ambulance." He said
Grissom ran over to the ambulance seeing me lying on a stretcher inside obviously unconscious while the paramedic was cleaning the blood off my head.
"Gil Grissom, her husband." He said, getting in. "How bad is it?"
"Just a few bruises and this cut on her head. I don't think she will need stitches." He said
Grissom leaned over looking at the cut on my head. The man got some peroxide and some cotton placing it on my head. I moved winching feeling my hand being taken up. Opening my eyes I saw I was in an ambulance.
"No….Noo!" I said, starting to move around trying to get out.
"Easy, don't move." The paramedic said
I looked at him then at Grissom holding my hand.
"I'm fine." I said
"Sara, you are not fine." Grissom said
"I don't need any medical assistance." I said
"Are you refusing medical attention?" The man asked
"Yes."
"No, she is not." Grissom said
"Please leave me alone!" I said, trying to get up.
"Sara, lay down right now!" Grissom said, sharply.
I looked at him then I sighed laying down again. Brass knocked as we all looked over at him.
"Gil, I need you outside."
"Okay, you stay here." He said, before leaving.
I watched him leave then I closed my eyes feeling the stinging sensation of peroxide. Grissom faced Brass outside of the ambulance looking at him.
"How is she?"
"I think okay." He said
"We need a statement."
"She could come tomorrow and talk."
"That's fine." Brass said
Grissom got back inside the ambulance seeing my head was bandaged. I stared at him as looked at me taking my hand.
"She doesn't have a concussion so I think she will be fine to go home." The man said
"Great." I said, trying to move.
"Sara, I want you to sit there for a few minutes." Grissom said
I sighed crossing my arms over my stomach glaring at him. He asked to speak to the man outside. I looked at the ceiling then the door opened and Grissom motioned me out. We came into the apartment and Grissom pulled me back to him.
"Are you sure you feel all right?"
"It takes a lot to keep me down." I said
"I'm just glad you didn't have a worse injury." He said, before kissing my head.
"So do you want to stay over?"
"I think not." He said
"Why?"
He rubbed my arms looking at me.
"Because I don't want to move that fast yet. If we become physical it could ruin what we have."
"Grissom, when will you trust me again?"
"I don't know."
I looked down
"I could come with you."
"You stay here." He said "Brass wants to talk to you tomorrow."
"Okay." I said, watching him go.
He turned looking at me standing alone. He walked back to me putting his hand around my neck pulling me against him. His lips parted my lips in a passionate kiss. I moaned loudly as he kept his grip on my neck. I forgot about the headache I had at that moment blown away what was happening. He would not stop kissing me. It became heated after I sped up the movement happening between us. He moved back breathing hard as I looked at him trying to catch my breath.
He let me go backing up then he walked to the door going out. I stood there vibrating from the kiss I had just received.
Hardly sleeping after that I came in early to work. I knew I should have seen Brass, but my need for more of Grissom was to much. He stood by his desk just getting in himself looking at a paper. I walked in shutting the door as he turned seeing me.
"Did you see Brass?" He asked, looking back at the paper.
He looked back over at me when I didn't answer he looked at me. I took the paper out of his hands pulling him back to his couch. He watched me come over sitting over him as I made him lie down.
"Sara, this is very inappropriate!"
I shut him up by kissing him. He pushed me back holding on so not to let me kiss him again.
"I want you to go see Brass then get to work!"
I smacked his hands off me and kissed him again. He sat up pushing me to the floor. I turned looking at him as he sat looking at me.
"Sara, I apologize." He said, trying to help me up. I backed up from him with tears in my eyes.
"What is wrong with you?!" I asked
"Sara, I told you I don't want to have relations till the time is right."
"I thought you wanted me!" I said, sniffing into my hand.
"Honey, I am so sorry." He said, coming over to me.
I backed up like a wounded animal. He watched me leave crying. I ran to the bathroom closing a stall as I cried. I felt embarrassed about my behavior. It was my fault if I ruined this.
Brass had me come into his office to do a statement then I went to work with a very heavy heart. Grissom came into the room I was in working on a blanket. He walked over silently watching me. I avoided looking at him knowing if I did I would cry.
"Sara, what can I do?"
"Nothing." I said
"Let me do something."
I shook my head no. He reached over touching my arm. I closed my eyes as he rubbed my arm. I moved away looking down still. He looked at me waiting for me to say something.
"Grissom, I ruined our marriage because I was drunk and vulnerable. I know you are going to hold this over me for a long time that is why you won't touch me as a husband and wife should. I want to start over, but you won't."
"Sara, I don't want to hold this over you. I want to start over, but I am still licking my wounds. I know you don't understand what it means to have your heart ripped out of you, but it's…."
I looked at him as he stopped.
"I don't know? You refused me when I asked you to dinner. You gave Nick that job rather than me. You let other women in while I was right in front of you!"
"Sara…I."
"Grissom, trust me when I say I have had more heartbreak than you could possibly have!"
I looked down again feeling my heart pump in my chest. I thought he was going to go. Instead he came over to me pulling me to face him. He put his hands on my cheeks.
"Honey, I am so sorry. I did all those things and more through the years. I took you for granted and I just hope you can forgive me."
"Gris, I do. I just want us to be together in one house."
He nodded looking at me.
"I have a meeting and then I'll come over and we can go to bed."
"You'll stay?"
"Yes."
I smiled as he did letting me go he walked out.
I raced home after shift getting everything ready. I laid on the bed hearing the front door open and close.
"Sara?" He called
"Bedroom." I said, turning off the light.
He came to the door looking around the dark room.
"Where are you?"
I turned the light on smiling at him as I laid on my stomach naked holding my head up with my hands. He stared at me starting to smile.
"What can I do for you?" I asked
"Wow." He said "You really are determined."
"It has been a while." I said
He walked in looking around the room.
"It's been a few weeks for me." He said
"Ha, ha." I said, rolling over sitting up. "Why don't you get undressed and come over here?"
"Give me a minute."
He went to the bathroom closing the door then he came out undoing his shirt and everything else. I smiled turning the light off seeing him the dim light come over lying down next to me. He laid flat as I moved over to him kissing his lips. He rolled us over kissing me with passion. I closed my eyes enjoying his hands moving along my body. His breath on my neck was almost to much to stand.
Grissom opened his eyes seeing the clock on my side of the bed. He blinked feeling my warm body up against his breathing softly into his chest. He looked at the clock again then he closed his eyes kissing my head. I moved my head up breathing out. He looked at me as I opened my sleepy eyes looking at him.
"Hey." He said, smiling.
"Hey."
He pushed back some of my hair.
"Well we did it."
"How was it?"
"Better than I remembered."
"I think we should try it again soon."
"I think we should." He said
I moved to lay on my other side as he put his arm around me. We laid in silence both thinking about different things. He sighed as he moved minutes later.
"We have to get ready to work."
"You go first." I said, closing my eyes.
He moved to sit up looking down at me.
"We could take a shower."
I opened my eyes turning to look at him.
"I will if you behave yourself."
He lifted the blanket looking at my body.
"I can't promise that."
I smiled watching him get up walking to bathroom naked. I got up running over joining him. The next few weeks with Grissom were wonderful. We became close like we were and I knew he was opening up to me.
A month later I was out with Catherine driving along some windy road. She watched the road carefully as I looked out my side seeing houses passing by. She sighed sitting back in her seat.
"What's wrong?" I asked
"I forgot to meet with Grissom about this month's schedules." She said
"You can when we get back."
"I've been putting it off because I hate doing them."
I smiled looking out again.
"So how are things?"
"Good. He is happy and I am happy. I think he is finally able to forgive me."
"That's great." She said
I nodded looking out. She looked back at the road seeing a bus coming down the road.
"What is he doing?" She said
I looked over seeing the bus was well over the line coming at us.
"Honk!" I said
She did watching him still stay half on our side. She swerved as he went full speed towards us. I screamed as she went over the hill with her tires on myside. I closed my eyes scared hearing her trying to steer. She pushed the brakes and the car stopped in a cloud of dirt. We sat back breathing in and out fast. I looked over at her as she looked at me.
"Great driving." I said
"Thank's." She said
I moved looking over seeing nothing but hill below.
"Okay, let's try this again." She said, putting the Tahoe into gear. She reversed looking out of her mirror driving out. We both calmed down as we were on the road again. We stopped at the scene. I got my phone out dialing Grissom's number. I waited till he answered.
"Grissom." He said
"Hey, it's me." I said
"You okay?" He asked, looking down at his coffee he just poured from the break room coffee pot.
"Yeah, I just wanted to tell you I love you."
He smiled looking down still.
"I love you to." He said
I looked over at Catherine who was waiting for me.
"Sara, what's wrong?" He asked
"Nothing, I better go."
"Okay."
He hung up looking at his phone a moment.
Catherine and I worked on the scene then I drove back with her silently thinking about things. Catherine looked over at me as I stared at nothing beside her.
"Hey!"
I jumped looking at her.
"You are a million miles away." She said, smiling.
"I was just thinking about Grissom."
"What about him?"
"It's nothing." I said, shaking my head. "I guess I was thinking about my life before him. I didn't have the happy childhood that everyone else had."
"Who has?" She asked
"Mine was really messed up and now I am a little freaked out, because I have this perfect, happy life and I feel weird about it."
"Isn't that what you have been running to?"
"I guess."
"Sara, I should tell you at first I didn't like you."
I looked at her.
"Why?"
"I just thought you were coming to snoop around and interfere, but as I got to know you I saw why Grissom liked you." She said "You really proved yourself to be loyal and hard working. Also you have made Grissom mellow out."
"Thank you." I said
She smiled at me then looked out to the road.
We parked outside of the lab and got out. I shut the door crying out as I shut my fingers in the door. Catherine came over opening it quickly as I took my hand out.
"You okay?" She asked
"I think so." I said, looking at my fingers.
She and I went into the building and I inspected my hand in the light. Skin was peeled back and blood started to ooze out where the knuckles were. I winced feeling the sting.
"You better get something on that." Catherine said
"I'll get a bandage."
"Grissom has some."
I groaned looking at her not wanting to bother him.
"Go." She said, walking away.
I slowly walked to his office knocking then when he didn't answer I went in going to this desk getting out his first aid kit. I bandaged my hand seeing blood had already stained it. I put back the kit then I went to the door. As I put my hand on the door knob I heard Grissom's voice on the other side. The door opened and he came in shutting it jumping as he saw me against the wall looking at him.
"Sara, what are you doing?"
"I….I was looking for….something and then I remembered that Catherine has it." I said, opening the door.
"What?" He asked, confused.
"My case." I said, closing the door running away.
Grissom shook his head walking over to his desk. His leg hit the bottom drawer as it was not closed all the way. I opened it seeing his first aid kit then he looked at the door.
My hand throbbed as I worked with Catherine in the lab. When break time came I was ready for coffee. I walked into the break room getting some then I walked to the locker room in search of some aspirin. I opened my locker getting some pills then I closed it drinking some coffee taking the pills.
I came out of the locker room after throwing my cup away in the garbage then I walked down the hallway. Grissom's door came open as I walked by it and I was pulled in. He shut the door as I looked at him.
"Grissom, why did you do that?"
"Sorry, I wanted to talk to you."
"What about?"
He came over to me searching my eyes.
"Are you hurt?"
"No."
"You're lying."
"You've been in this office to long." I said
He reached over pulling my right arm up seeing the bandage on my hand.
"How did this happen?"
I rolled my eyes looking at him.
"I shut it in the car door."
"I see."
He undid the bandage looking at my hand.
"Sara, this looks terrible."
"I will fix it later."
I made him let me go and I put the bandage back on looking at him.
"You are a very stubborn person." He said
I smiled walking to the door. He watched me open it looking at him.
"It turns you on, doesn't it?"
"No."
"Now who's lying?" I said, before closing the door.
After work Grissom took me home. He made me come to the bathroom where he fixed my hand. I smiled as he looked at me in his this is serious look. When he finished I stood looking at the clean white bandage wrapped around my hand. He looked at it then he looked at me.
"So should we have take out or should I make something?"
I smiled leaning forward kissing him. He kissed me back then he pulled me back.
"Take out." I said
He nodded moving past me to go out. I stood in place watching him leave. We ate then I moved close to him on the couch nibbling at his ear. He closed his eyes letting me do it. I leaned back on my legs looking at him. He looked at me as I reached over touching his hair.
He touched my hand looking at me.
"We should go to bed." He said
I nodded letting him take me in.
The next shift I worked as Grissom went to meetings with Catherine. I could hear yelling from a man down the hallway. I walked out seeing Nick standing at the front desk with his arms up trying to talk to an upset man.
"Sir, if you do not calm down I am going to call security." Nick said
He looked over seeing me walking over slowly. He shook his head looking back at the man.
"I want my wife!" The man screamed
"Sir please just calm down." Nick said
He grabbed Nick by the shirt yanking him up against him.
"You show me where my wife is or I am going to tear this place apart!"
I ran over as the receptionist got on the phone to call for assistance. I tried to push the man away from Nick. The man pushed me back hard and I fell to the ground winch as I hit my head against the corner. I heard people coming. Grissom and Brass ran over pulling the man away from Nick.
"You are under arrest for assault!" Brass said, pulling the man away.
"No, please….I have to get my wife!" He screamed, as Brass and his men dragged him away.
Nick watched him go as Grissom came to me helping me up.
"Nick, are you okay?" Grissom asked, looking at him.
"Yeah, I just feel bad for the guy."
He walked away as Grissom turned to me touching my face looking me over.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm fine." I said
He nodded touching my arm then he walked away. I sighed touching my head then I went back to work. I walked over to the police station to see Brass about that guy.
"You can't see him." Brass said
"I just want to talk to him for one minute." I said
"Sara, this guy's wife was found assaulted and killed in a hotel room. I don't want anyone talking to him."
"Please?" I said
He sighed leading me out. I walked slowly into the jail cells hearing someone crying. I walked over with Brass standing by the wall as I stopped looking in at the pitiful man sitting on a bench in the cell. He raised his head looking at me.
"Hello." I said
He said nothing as he looked down again.
"I'm Sara Sidle from CSI. I came because I just wanted to talk to you."
He wiped his eyes looking at the wall.
"Why?" He asked
"Because I felt bad for you."
He shook his head sniffing.
"M…My wife and I were married….just ten months."
"I'm sorry."
"I just wanted to talk to her…..just to explain I wasn't mad at her for…sleeping with my friend."
I looked back at Brass then at him.
"I…I've been a jerk lately and it drove her away." He said "She...was my whole world."
I watched him hold his head crying.
I touched the bars moving closer.
"I know how you feel."
He wiped his eyes sniffing.
"How can you know?" He asked
"My husband and I were having issues so I went to stay at a person's home and I….slept with someone."
He looked at me standing he came over.
"Why did you do that?"
"I thought it was because I was drunk, but I think I did it because I was in such despair at that time I was looking for someone to make me feel whole again." I said "When the person you love more than anything in this world betrays you it makes you act unpredictably. Afterwards you regret it knowing that a night with someone can destroy everything you have."
He looked at me seeing I did understand.
"Did he take you back?"
"At first, but I eventually told him the truth and he left me."
"I never wanted to hurt her." He said
"No one does, but it happens.
"Sara, we have to go." Brass said
I nodded looking at him. The man touched my hand on the bar and I looked at him.
"Can you do me a favor?"
"Yes?"
"Will you go see her and tell her I am sorry?"
"Yes, I will."
"Thank you."
I nodded watching him let me go to walk back to the bench and sit down. I looked at him a second then I walked with Brass outside. He shut the door behind me. I looked over seeing Grissom standing looking at me. I knew he had listened to me talking to the man.
"Gil, what are you doing here?" Brass asked
"I was looking for you and they told me you were in there." He said, still looking at me.
"Oh, what did you need?" He asked, feeling like he was intruding.
"It can wait." He said
"Well I have a station to run." He said, leaving us.
I swallowed walking up to him.
"You really had a heart to heart with that man." He said
"How much did you hear?"
"Enough." He said
"Are you mad?"
He slowly shook his head.
"I guess we should go." I said
He reached down taking my hand leading me out of the station to an empty interrogation room. I stepped back as he closed the door. He stepped closer putting his hands on my cheeks.
"Sara, I am so honored that you became my wife. Nothing else matters to me than you. I would do anything for you."
"Why are you saying this?" I asked, searching his face.
"When I heard you speak to that man I saw your soul come out. I saw the pain and the sad little girl inside you. I want to protect you and that little girl. I want to make her feel loved and happy."
I took a shaky breath reaching up touching his hands on my cheeks.
"Gris, I love when you say these things. You do make me feel loved and protected. I could not ask for anything more than what you give me already."
He kissed me slowly as I wrapped my arms around him feeling my heart burst.
Nick decided to drop the charges against the man and I went into the morgue to see his wife. I was left alone as I looked down at the face of the dead wife on an autopsy table. I shivered looking at her telling myself to just talk.
"Your husband asked me to come and see you. He said he is sorry. I suppose it would mean more coming from him, but he can't see you….I know you probably felt what was happening to you, but I hope you knew that deep down your husband did love you."
I sighed looking at her then I walked out hoping that she did know where ever she was.
