The moon was screaming at Marco, but he could deal with it now. The first few times he had been startled by it, unable to place the source of the discomfort. He had even thought that it had been his inner self telling him what he wanted.
He wasn't that stupid anymore. He tapped his feet nervously. It was time for step 37 in his 37 step plan. He had grown up a bit in recent years, learned that a schedule was as important to organization as a plan. This was when he had to do it. In the back of his head the moon raged, telling him that this wasn't the right plan.
A portal opened and Star Butterfly stepped through. The moon yelled at him, filled his head with a rush of pleasure, told him that this was right.
"I'm sorry, Star" Marco muttered
Star didn't meet his eyes. "It's okay, Marco" She replied "You've been the best friend I could have asked for"
"That doesn't have to change" Marco smiled and breathed in deeply.
"You can do this" Star finally looked at him and pained smiled
For a moment it seemed like she was his world. That nothing else should matter. His purpose was to protect her, to lover her. But Marco knew that that wasn't his thought.
She handed him the scissors.

Tom punched the wall of his room. He had been so stupid. Take a girl in high school and spend his life with her. He had been so short sighted and stupid. Karma was a bitch. He had thought that it would be okay. Giant moon of destiny, nothing wrong with that. And now he could never be happy because the stupid moon. He had no body to blame but himself. He invited Star to the blood moon ball. Because of him she and Marco were doomed to be together.
Tom heard a clearing of a throat and turned to see Marco Diaz standing there.
He averted his three eyes as fast as he could.
"I'm sorry" He muttered into the wall.
"That is the best greeting you can give me" Marco replied, trying to sound playful but his voice was tight.
Tom exploded "I screwed up your life. I took away your choice and your freedom. I was a snot nosed moron of a kid, with no idea what life or love really was. I made one giant stupid choice and now you can't choose anymore." He paused for breath "Marco, its amazing that you can even stand to talk to me.
Marco smiled a bit. "Fuck the moon."
Tom looked up, shocked.
"I know what I feel for star is an arcane fake. If its fate then fuck fate. If its my destiny then I decline."
Marcos voice was even but his jaw was clenched as if against some unseen pain.
"I love you, Tom." he continued "You make me want to be better. I want to help you and be there for you"
Tom was speechless for a moment, but soon found his voice. "But you said. . ."
"I said I needed to figure some stuff out Tom, It took me a while but I know what is me and whats lies now."
"But I'm the one that. . ."
"You were young. But you grew up, You figured out what your weaknesses are and you are working to overcome them, I admire you for that, Tom"
Tom turned and stared at Marco, All three eyes wide. "but. . ."
"You don't have anything to apologize for. We have some stuff to take care of, more difficulty than a lot of couples, but we will make it work."
Tom finally allowed himself to smile. "Kinda fast, for you, safe kid?"
Marco relaxed "You have no idea how much planing and psyching myself up this took"
Tom chuckled "I'm not that hard to talk to?"
"Never" Marco replied "It's just hard to remember that sometimes"
He sat down next to Tom and put his own hand over the demon's. They sat like that for a good little while, not talking just being together.

On a bench somewhere in Mewni Star Butterfly gasped. It was like a heavy load had been lifted off her shoulders. The glowing red orb that had haunted her nights was gone. She was free.
