3 My Sonic Adventure

The Taste of Tears

She loved watching him train. He was no longer the goofy twelve year old from that day she and Sokka found him in that iceberg. He was tall now, with strong, muscular arms. His face was so serious as he concentrated on the complicated pose. He was always that way now- he never smiled, never had enough time for her.
She knew he loved her, but his duties had kept him away. She knew that it was important and all. He and Zuko were building an entirely new city and trying to keep the world at peace. It was a lot for a 20 year old to manage.
She had always wondered what would happen to them. When they kissed for the first time, they were so young-so excited about their victory. It was so passionate, so adrenaline fueled. It caused her to wonder if they would last.

She always thought that Aang would find someone better than her. He was the avatar-he had his pick of the lot. She was just a simple water tribe girl. Nothing special.
Yet, something kept him coming back. He always treated her so well, like a princess. Whenever she was with him, he never saw anyone else. They had both come so close to losing each other. They wanted to cherish every single moment that they had.
But he had become so distant. So confused. So angry. The Aang she knew and loved was gone. In his place was an overworked, struggling young avatar she didn't know. She needed to talk to him. She needed to know. So she took a deep breath and walked over to him.

He swirled a stream of water over his head. She put her arms around her. He yelped and turned around, seething. "Katara! I told you not to interrupt my training!" She shrank back with an injured look on her face. She held back tears. His face immediately softened. He reached out and took her in his tattooed arms. "Oh spirits...what have I done? I'm a monster Katara."
He sat down on a bench and put his face in his hands. She sat down beside him and rubbed his back. "I know Aang. It's a lot, isn't it..."
"But that's no excuse Katara."
"I know, I know. I've had a rough time lately too."
"Hmmm?"
"I-Well I - Well what I'm trying to figure out- do you still love me?"
He looked up.
"Love you? Of course I still love you. Katara," he took her hand in his, "Katara...I love you more than I ever have. I would do anything and everything for you."

She breathed a sigh of relief. He smiled and cupped her face in his hands. She smiled back and pressed her lips to his. He tilted his head and returned the kiss. She could feel the sweat on his body as she embraced him. She released all of her tension in that kiss, tears streaming down her face, the salty taste mixing with their lips.
When they broke their embrace, she rested her head on his shoulder. He wiped away a fallen tear with his thumb."You came back to me." He smiled. "I always have and I always will come back to you. You will never be alone, remember that."
She leaned into his body and nodded. He put his arm around her and stroked her long hair. They sat there for awhile just resting. After a long time, she spoke.
"Aang, I love you."
"I love you too, Katara."
