Summary: Lupin reflects his life and one particular person in it.
He sat on the floor in the dusty bedroom at the top of the stairs. He couldn't recall how long he had been up there but if he had to take a guess it would probably have been close to three days. No one had been around at the old HQ because they were afraid when…he…died that it was not secure anymore. So everyone used the Burrow now.
He remained, though. He wasn't ready to let go. So now instead of preparing to fight with the others he just sat in the forgotten bedroom of his old lover. Everyone knew they had been close. But no one alive today knew just how close they had been. They were careful, kept it quiet. The only other people that knew was James and Lily but they were long dead. Now he was all alone and he hated it. He recalled something someone had told him at James and Lily's funeral.
"While we are mourning the loss of our friend, others are rejoicing to meet them behind the veil."
He couldn't help but chuckle slightly at the irony. He could only hope that James and Lily were both waiting for his lost lover when he had died. He could only hope they were there for him when he died.
He contemplated ending his life. Many times. One quick spell to the head would end it. But as soon as he would muster up the courage to do it he could hear his lover's voice in his head.
"Come on Moony. It's not so bad. Don't take the coward's way out. What would James and Lily think? I know if you went through with it Lily would kill you."
And every time that thought went through his head he couldn't help but smile. It was going to be hard but he would just have to toughen up and live his life. For both of them.
