The Crystal To His Heart
Krystal stood leaning over the side railing of the Arwing. She had a flower in hand and one by one plucked pedals off it until nothing was left but the bud. She stood there moping and whipping dry tears from her eyes. She hated this feeling she had now. Slippy was dead, Falco was badly injured, and Fox was…she couldn't even think of what Fox felt. Why did she have to be so incompetent. She had made mistakes before, but they never ended like this. She sobbed as more tears fell from her blue crystallized eyes. It seemed like a normal recon mission that day. It was just the four of them flying in group formation through what seemed like an empty space field. Slippy was reading his comics, Falco was bragging on how great of a pilot he was, Fox was relaxing kicking his feet up, and she was writing about her adventures with the star fox group in a journal she had been keeping. It was almost time to head back and everyone seemed fine, then Falco started to brag about how his ship was the fastest in the entire galaxy. Krystal had finally heard enough and challenged him to a race. Falco eagerly accepted while Slippy and Fox followed along. It wasn't until she had to raise the bar higher that things began to fall apart. They started speeding through an asteroid field when suddenly they were ambushed by star wolf. Krystal lost consciousness and crash landed on a nearby asteroid. When she woke up she was told everything by the doctor. Wolf himself killed Slippy and wrecked Falco. Fox would've pursued, but went back to check on Falco's as well as her own condition. She looked down the hallway of the hospital and then saw something that she hadn't seen sense Peppy died several years ago. Fox was in tears. He was telling Slippy's Dad what had happened. Krystal blamed herself for everything. None of this would've happened had she just let Falco brag. And now here she was on the side deck, waiting for Fox. She had to tell him she was sorry at least before she was fired. As she whimpered and cried, she heard Fox entering the Arwing. She immediately ran up to the main deck. Fox was there, sitting in his captains chair. Krystal didn't say a word. She wanted to cry, but she wouldn't. Not in front of Fox. Fox looked up at her.
"Krystal….." He paused. They were both silent. Finally Krystal spoke.
"
Fox, I'm sorry. This is all my fault! I'm so useless! If I hadn't challenged Falco, Slippy would still be here!" She broke into tears and started whaling. "I'm so sorry Fox!" Fox ran up to Krystal and hugged her.
He tried anything in his power to try and get her to calm down.
"Krystal…..please stop. No one blames you for anything. You didn't know about Wolf's sneak attack. You didn't do anything wrong." Fox paused for a few seconds. He then started again. "It's my fault Slippy is dead. I'm captain, not you. I got word about Falco and he's gonna be back soon. I'm just glad you and him are ok. You guys are my family, and Krystal." Fox began. "I love you!" Fox said.
Krystal embraced Fox and whispered in his ear, "I love you to!" They two stood hugging each other for hours. Krystal finally found someone who truly loved, and although the circumstances, she could see a bright future ahead.
