'It's now or never.' Nick thought as he started picking the closet lock. With his mom at work and his uncle asleep on the couch, now was the only time that he could find out what they were hiding in the closet. The lock clicked and a smile spread across nicks face. He opened the door slowly and hoped that is wouldn't creak. He was in luck. With the door spread wide Nick looked at his family's secret. There were only two things occupying the closet; a large cylinder covered in cloth tied with belts and a giant cross, covered in the same manner.

"Nicolas Wolfwood Thompson what have I told you about this closet." Nick turned around slowly and winced when he saw his mom standing in the doorway with the week's groceries in her arms.

"You told me that if I ever looked in it you would put me on a sand steamer to your family's farm?" Nick really hoped he was wrong or that his mother was exaggerating.

"That's right now go pack your things we're leaving tomorrow." His mother's voice wasn't raised at all. It almost made it sound like he hadn't done anything wrong at all. Before he had time to argue his uncle walked into the room.

"Welcome home Millie." He said with a goofy smile on his face. "What's this about going somewhere on a sand steamer?"

"You know perfectly well what's going on Mr. Vash. Can I ask you what you where doing while Nick was opening the closet?"

"Sure you can, I was acting like I was asleep to give Nick a chance to open the closet."

"Why would you do that? After all I told you specifically to not let Nick open this closet." Nick looked dumbfounded. Acting. Acting. Uncle Vash was only acting to give him time to open the closet. Nick wanted to hear Uncle Vash's reasons as well.

"Well that's simple. I thought it was about time Nick found out about his father."

"I guess your right Mr. Vash, after all Nick is already ten." Nick was surprised. This was the first time he had ever heard his mother sound sad. "Nick lets go into the living room and sit down. This is going to be a long story."
