Authors Note: Okay. Here's a little something. I felt really touched when I read this original poem by my friend. It's entitled Who Am I To You. So, if you could pay attention to the poem as well as the story, I would really appreciate it.
I'll do a follow up on Natsume's POV later on. (:

Mikan was late. But she was sure he would wait for her. They had been together for almost a year now. They had a love that would overcome everything. Or so Mikan thought.
She rushed to the school gate, waited at the door. She waited and waited. But no one with raven hair appeared- only his friends walked by.
"Where's he?" She cried. They laughed and sniggered. Only Ruka went to her, shook his head and uttered two words,
"Don't wait."

I waited for you after school that day
Seeing half the school walk past my way
Half an hour passed yet you never came
Who am I to you?

She went home sadly, heeding Ruka's advice. He was just skipping school again. Or so Mikan thought.
She then dialled the number she knew by heart now. She waited for three rings and his voice came on.

"Hello?"
"I went to your school today! You weren't there, why?"
"None of your business," he replied curtly.
And hung up the phone.

I called you later on your phone
Asked you why you left me alone
You told me then "Whatever"
Who am I to you?

He was just tired. He was just cranky. After all, he loved her till his heart could burst. He said so himself. She would let him rest for a while and call him later. He'll be better, he'll be back to normal.
An hour later, Mikan called him again.

"Hello," his voice crackled over the phone line.
"It's me."
"Who?"
"Mikan."
"Go away, you pest."
And he hung up.

He was still grouchy, Mikan decided. Still grouchy, she convinced herself. I'll go look for him at school tomorrow, everything will be fine again.
Or so Mikan thought.

And then last night I called your phone
Then you told me "LEAVE ME ALONE"
So harsh and cold the way you spoke
Who am I to you?

She went to his school the next day, and waited again. Once more, she saw Ruka and she called out to him.
"Give up Mikan. It's useless," he pitied her.

But wait! There he was! With his slicked back raven hair.

With his arm slung across Sumire shoulders.

"Natsume?" Mikan's voice quivered.
His head turned with a beatific smile on his face.
He saw her, and turned back without missing a step.

Mikan convinced herself it was an illusion, it was just an illusion. She was just dreaming. Even if she wasn't there was no way Natsume would have been together with Sumire.

Or so Mikan thought.

Even if we meet along the walkways
You ignore me and avoid my gaze
Even when I say "hi" you don't reply
Who am I to you?
