The Game Is A Foot

The early morning spring breeze swept through the DC area bringing a crisp nip in the air. The spring much milder than previous years along with the warmer winters made the year round climate very tolerable for the tiny body of Gracie Hope Reid. Today was a very special day for the Reid's. Not only was it Gracie turning one year old, but today was Mother's Day. Kira awoke to Reid making her breakfast in bed, consisting of a small stack of pancakes, coffee, and a single pink rose, reminding them of their first date outing a few short years ago. Reid had gotten up earlier to take care of Gracie's morning routine so that Kira could sleep and relax. After delivering her breakfast and as she ate, he went to retrieve Gracie, who was already standing against the rail of her crib.

Reid took care and hoisting her in his arms. She was going through a growth spurt, her longer legs, definitely her father, yet for a baby of a year old, you can definitely tell she will be athletic physically. She even became responsive developing basic communications through sign language that they along with the rest of the team have been helping with. It definitely helped with the noise level when she wanted something. He smiled at the progress she had made. He looked at her beautiful green eyes, and as she giggled, she signed for milk. He took her downstairs and fulfilled her silent request and brought her to her mother as she had finished her special meal. Reid retreated to the shower to get ready for their day to themselves, them and Gracie.

A few months after their detachment from the X-Files, they decided to make a tradition to visit the gravesites on Mother's, Father's Day, and Maeve's Birthday, while also promising to visit more if there wasn't anything going on. Luckily in that time frame, they have visited quite often. Even Kira left some flowers on Maeve's grave. Even though she knew she didn't have to, she felt she needed to pay respects to her. If it weren't for her, she and Reid wouldn't have coped with having a child of their own.

Kira looked at the window, as the clouds began to roll in. "I know we agreed to go to the cemetery today, but I am not sure with the way the weather has been."

Reid nodded in agreement. "I was thinking that when I was looking at the weather on your phone."

"We can try next week if we don't have a case." She smiled at him and then to their daughter. Reid relished in that ever since the deal was made, she smiled a lot more than before. However, there were times he can see her in thought, feeling guilty about the sacrifices made to guarantee their safety, and luckily for them, that deal has been upheld. Their morning routine became interrupted with their phones going off, a message from Garcia. "Not today!" both exclaimed.

Reid takes Gracie so Kira can get ready. "Looks like you, my beautiful girl, are going to be spending time with Aunt Penelope." Kira jumped in the shower while Reid packed their Go bags, including one for Gracie for her stay with Garcia. Kira finished her shower and exited the bathroom so she can get ready while Reid finished dressing Gracie and cleaned the kitchen. They were ready to go within 15 minutes and out the door. The drive to the BAU was short so they wasted little time to bring Gracie into the conference room. They secured Gracie in her pack and play that Hotch offered to have set up in his office while they consulted and Garcia would break down after.

As they received their files and iPads, the images revealed to Kira made her heart sink.
