The Best Day Of My Life
I was working in the strawberry fields when he sauntered over to me.
"Hey Katie," he says, a mischievous edge to his tone.
I look at him questioningly. Inside, my crazy heart starts to do tiny somersaults, and I resist the urge to run my hands through his soft, shiny hair. I hide my actual feelings and roll my eyes at him instead.
"What do you want, Travis?" I ask, sighing.
He smirks at me and sits down. "What? I can't come visit you without an actual purpose?"
I look at him skeptically and shake my head. "No."
He sighs and puts an arm around me. "Katie Katie Katie..."
I blush and shrug his arm off of me. "Seriously, don't you have some pranking to do? Stealing? Anything? Do you have to come annoy me while I'm working?"
He pouts playfully and says, "How rude, Katie. Could it hurt you to be a little nicer?"
"Oh, please," I say, waving him off. I try to ignore certain thoughts that come to mind as I continue working.
He sighs and lies down, crushing the plants I had just grown. I try not to strangle him for that.
Looking at the sky, he says, "Can I ask you a question, Katie?"
I scrunch my eyebrows and wonder what he wants to ask me. I look at him, and notice how cute he looks, with his curly brown hair and beautiful blue eyes. I shake my head to clear my thoughts and say, "Sure. What is it?"
He turns towards me, his usual smirk gone. His face is thoughtful and serious. Then he opens his mouth and says, "Do you like me, Katie?"
My breath hitches in my throat and I blush a deep shade of red. I look away from him and start working on my plant again. My voice small, I ask him, "Why do you ask?"
He sits up and puts his hands on my shoulders. Slowly, he turns me towards him. He gazes deeply into my eyes as I try to overcome the redness on my face.
His expression completely serious, he tells me, "Because I like you, Katie."
My heart starts racing a thousand miles an hour, and the redness creeps up to my face again. I feel overjoyed at the fact that he likes me, and I crack a smile.
But before I can say anything, I find something soft pressing to my lips. With a jolt, I realize that Travis Stoll, is kissing me, Katie Gardner, the strict, no-nonsense type, not-so-pretty daughter of Demeter. My heart starts doing freaking gymnastics, and whole-heartedly, I kiss him back.
He pulls away way to fast for my liking. We're both breathing heavily, and he's wearing that cute smirk of his again.
Our faces are only a few inches apart, and I resist the urge to pull him towards me and kiss him again. Then he says, "You never answered my question, Katie."
I frown and ask him, "What...question?"
He chuckles cutely and says yet again, "Do you like me, Katie?"
I smile at him and shake my head. "No, I do not."
His face falls and his eyes hold so much sadness. He proceeds to pull away from me, but before he can, I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him in for yet another kiss.
I pull back a few seconds later, and then I say, "I don't like you, Travis Stoll. I love you."
He looks delighted and he kisses me again and again. Finally, he pulls away, grins at me and says, "As do I, Katie Gardner. As do I."
And that, was the best day of my life.
