It was the whitest sand he'd ever seen in his short life.
It was pretty and fell from the sky.
His mother complained about it while his daddy laughed, but both watched him close.
They urged him to touch it, to play with it.
He'd rather be napping with daddy, under a nice warm blanket, but he decides to do as his parents ask because they won't let him back inside until he does.
It's just white sky sand after all, what harm could it do?
So he touches it.
And he screams.
Sand should not be that cold.
It was like the sky sand had bitten him with it's chill.
Some even turned to water, getting him wet and he did not like that at all.
His lip quivers, and then he's crying.
He did not like this sand, not at all.
This sand was cold and wet and too white, the glare of the sun bouncing off it hurt his eyes.
It doesn't take much of the water works before his mother his holding him close.
He welcomes the warmth of her hug as she bounces him.
He welcomes the smell of the desert on her skin, and an image of real sand comes to mind.
He thinks of his uncles sand castles that were built just for him.
He knows what he'll be dreaming of during his next nap.
His mother carries him inside, where it's warm and there's no evil cold sky sand.
And as she passes his father she tells the man "I told you. He's a Suna baby. He needs warmth."
His father sighs and shakes his head.
His mother walks deeper into the warmth of the house while she keeps talking to his father.
"We can try again in a few years, until then winter for us is best spent visiting my brothers."
His daddy isn't happy, but he understands.
A few days later, he and his mommy are getting off a train.
He smiles when he sees real sand.
Warm sand.
His three year old body shakes with excitement.
That's the sand he wants to touch.
The sand he want to play in.
The sand he wants to nap in.
His mother laughs, pulling him along until his uncles come into view.
Uncle Gaara's sand, that magic warm softness, tickles his nose and he laughs happily.
This is where he belongs.
This is his kind of sand.
Because Suna sand is the best sand to a Suna baby.
Cute, short, and to the point. Thank you all for reading.
